7 is one of the two deuteragonists (alongside 5) of the 2009 animated feature film 9.
She is a warrior for the Stitchpunks, and is the rebellious and protective portion of the Scientist's personality. She is also the sole female stichpunk.
She was voiced by Jennifer Connelly.
Appearance
7 appears to be made from a small weave of corduroy. The her fabric skin has become bleached from long amounts of exposure to the sun due to long intervals of exploration. She wears a bird skull from a crow as a helmet, and the bones of the animal hang down from the sides of her helmet to act as a sort of earrings. Two long natural color-striped feathers are strap-tied to the back of her helmet which visually shield her backside, while also covering a previous injury where a patch of striped fabric now obscures most of the number inked on her back. She wears a small russet metal bracer on the forelimb of her right arm along with a small shield made from part of an old bullet shell and a galvanized flat washer tethered altogether with a durable string. Her spear is made from a black clock hand and a small knife blade. Near the end of the film, she loses both her helmet and her shield.
Aside from the aforementioned "earrings", she does not have hair nor accessories to distinguish her as being “feminine" appearance-wise. However, her structure is taller and slimmer compared to her other counterparts, giving her a svelte appearance. “Feminine" stitchpunks such as 7 have a shoulder delineation that is noticeably curved sooner to the distance between the tip of the shoulders to the actual neck joint of the endoskeleton. The shoulders are less straighter in the outlined shape and rather come down with the natural curvature slightly more vertiginous than the other eight stitchpunks from the Scientist. The chin-line shape is an other physique that can be varied, as how 2, 5, 6, and 9 particularly have a similar rounded chin-line shape. 1 and 8’s facial formality were modeled differently from the others, but 7 and the twins (3 & 4) have a more pointed silhouette of their chins (though 3 and 4 do not have a specified gender).
Biography
7 is the only female creation. A rebel and a loner, she is willing to take many risks for the good of her people. She is kind and caring for others, and is very protective towards 3 and 4. Near the end of the film, 7 shows her vulnerability, most notably when she believes 9 is crushed to death. Her canvas skin’s color has been bleached away by the sun, leaving her skin moonstone-white; and she uses a blade mounted on a long staff for fighting. She wears a helmet made from a dead bird's skull as well as two bird feathers hanging down her back, covering up her briefly shown scar that covers her number. She was the first to reject 1's fearful teachings, and has spent the time leading up to the film in the wilderness fighting the Cat Beast on her own. Her skin is fastened together by stitching and a green button on her chest.
Along with 9 and the twins, she is a survivor. As a hardened warrior, she has not let anyone into her heart for a long time, but she is gradually softened towards 9, eventually becoming a close friend.
Personality
7 is a spit-fire, being strong-willed, rebellious, independent, and defiant. However, in battle she is calm, confident and collected. She finds herself frustrated with the others for not being willing to go out and fend for themselves like she has, and she is especially abhorred by 1 due to his ego regarding leadership mannerisms. She is also specially protective of 3 & 4, having a maternal role over them. At the beginning of the film, she had more of a hardened nature— but after 9's arrival, she begins to develop a more sensitive and emotional side.
Relationships
- 9 - 7 develops a more gentle personality after first meeting 9. She is often annoyed with his carelessness and the trouble he gets the stitchpunks into, especially reprimanding him after accidentally getting 2 killed. She eventually starts to care for him and even tries to convince him not to sacrifice himself.
- 8 - 7 is fairly agitated by 8 because of his blind loyalty to 1.
- 6 - 7 is very much confused by 6, and she tries her best to ignore him; Nonetheless she will defend him, and she is also melancholic towards him.
- 5 - 5 and 7 are very good friends; 5 sewed 7's impaled leg that she received during the Winged Beast fight.
- 3 & 4 - 7 is very protective and caring towards the twins, and she somewhat acts as an especial motherly figure to them.
- 2 - It is evidential that 7 and 2 have been good friends because 2 was excited about 7's return after she killed the Cat Beast; In sympathetic desolation for 2, 7 tries to kill 1 after finding out he selfishly sent 2 out to his death.
- 1 - 7 has a ruminative intolerance towards 1; she left him and his cowardice to go scavenge for any survivors, hunt for utilitarian items/equipment, and fight any machines domiciling in the Emptiness.

Trivia
- In the 2005 animated short film that the 2009 film was based on, 7 was already killed by the Cat Beast when the events of the short film took place.
- In the Russian adaptation, 7 represents The Scientist's wife.[citation needed]
- It is possible that both 9 and 7 have romantic affections/feelings with each other ever since 9 met her, but because of the ongoing tragedies, they were unable to show much affection until the end of the film.
- This was confirmed by director Shane Acker that 9 and 7 are somewhat a couple.
- It is mentioned in the Commentary that the scene in which 7 shadows her face with her bird skull helmet in The Library is a reference to how hockey players in Canada put their helmets down, as that shot was animated by one of the remote animators in Canada.
- The Commentary also mentions that 7's fighting skills are based on both parkour and skateboarding moves.
- 7's battle helmet is consisted of a dead bird's skull, some little teeth bones, and two bird feathers attached to the back of her helmet. It remains on 7's head until the explosion caused by the Fabrication Machine near the end of the film, which it flew off and she never picked up.
- During some shots of the film, one can see 7 has a patch on her back covering up most of her number. It is explained in the commentary that she received it in a fight with the Cat Beast.
- Some assume 7 to be ambidextrous, as she frequently uses both her right hand and her left hand while fighting/handling things with no visible difficulties. Whether this was an animator oversight, or purposeful is unknown.
- 7 was going to have a figure made by Neca, but it ended up being cancelled; she would have come with her bird skull and spear included.
