Alex Scott is one of the two main protagonists (alongside Kelly Robinson) of the 2002 comedy-action-film, I Spy. He is a special BNS agent with the mission of recuperate the "Switchblade", along with Kelly Robinson, who at first, they don’t like each other. He’s also in love the corrupted traditor agent, Rachel Wright.

He was played by Owen Wilson; who also played Reggie in Free Birds, Marmaduke in the 2010 film of the same name, John Beckwith in Wedding Crashers, Jedediah in the Night at the Museum films, Lightning McQueen in Cars franchise, Roy O'Bannon in Shanghai Noon and Shanghai Knights, Kenneth "Ken" Hutchinson in Starsky & Hutch, Hansel McDonald in Zoolander and its sequel Zoolander 2, Mobius in the Marvel Cinematic Universe series Loki, and Father Kent in Haunted Mansion.

History

As a BNS agent, Alex has a mission in Uzbekistan to get information about the "Switchblade", but when a phone call goes off and creates an avalanche, but he still finds the guy who has to give him the information under the avalanche and to make him talk he pulls his broken leg and gets the information that he sold the Switchblade to Arnold Gundars. When he tries to take him to the helicopter, the informant ends up killed, even though Alex had managed to distract them temporarily with a diversion and couldn't shoot because they had tanks.

Alex returns to the BNS base and gets information on how to complete the new mission, even though everyone doesn't look favorably on him and Alex is always envious of his rival, Carlos, even stealing some gadgets better than his out of envy without being seen, he talks to Edna and tells her that he has a mission in Budapest in Hungary to recover the "Switchblade" and Rachel Wright, who Alex has always had a crush on, is waiting for him there. After a meeting that didn't go very well, he is introduced to his cover, Kelly Robinson, which he initially thinks is an advertisement and says he doesn't like, but it becomes embarrassing when he realizes it's a video conference.

Arriving at the airport, Alex immediately meets Kelly and already doesn't like him and Kelly doesn't want to listen to anything he has to say and wants to be the boss. Before boarding the plane, Alex helps out two of Kelly's assistants with a phone call since he can speak Hungarian.

On the plane that took off, Alex goes to the control cabin and finds Kelly at the controls and he plays the prank of going higher and makes him fly among the plane. Alex shows some gadgets like the contact lens that allows you to see what someone else who has the other lens sees and the earphone that you can listen to inside your head. Kelly appreciates these things and jokes about them, annoying Alex though. When Alex informs Kelly that they have to infiltrate a party that is at 20:00 PM, Kelly refuses to listen to any explanation and wants to go only at 23:00 PM, so Alex, out of spite, stuns the pilot and removes the autopilot and the plane begins to crash. Alex says that he will put it back on if Kelly comes at 23:00 PM, who at first continues to refuse, but eventually gives in and the plane starts flying again.

When they arrive in Budapest, Alex is met at the exit of the hotel by Kelly who complains about her room that they don't like, and Alex tries to explain to them the job of being a spy. A mysterious woman appears and seduces Kelly to take him to her room, but he prefers to go to the woman's room because he says that his is ugly. Alex, however, tries to stop him because he doesn't even know her and doesn't know what her intentions are, but Kelly doesn't listen to him and for this reason he is kidnapped and taken to a room tied to a chair where he is threatened with torture if he doesn't give information about Alex. When Kelly doesn't say anything sincere and is about to be tortured, Alex arrives and shoots the terrorists and fights against the woman who easily manages to suppress him, so he urges Kelly, who managed to free himself in the meantime, to shoot her, which he does after some anxiety. All this turns out to be just a set-up to test Kelly, the woman is Rachel Wright and the kidnappers are BNS agents. Alex compliments Kelly because he only gave worthless information from nothing.

Alex and Rachel explain to Kelly that they have to recover the Switchblade from Gundars who now has it there in Budapest and wants to sell it to a terrorist with the highest bidder Zhu Tam, and with a pen with a tracking device they can track Gundars anywhere and with some tuxedos they give them they can go to the party to infiltrate.

They manage to get in thanks to Kelly who manages to have fame and success, he makes a mess by saying that he has never seen Alex and they almost take him away, but he manages to fix everything in time. The two meet Gundars and exchange his pen with theirs, Alex reveals to Kelly that he met a professional assassin and he is angry at her big words. Meanwhile Kelly has a wrestling match with one of Gundars' men, Alex rushes to the criminal's study through ropes and enters from the roof to hack his computer. However, Kelly's match ends very soon, as he immediately manages to get the better of his opponent and reaches Alex in the study from the main door and thus sets off the silent invisible laser alarm Alex gets irritated and Kelly takes it out on him because he didn't tell her. Alex puts on a black mask worn in test to escape and the others to keep the terrorists busy and then on a motorbike and finally they hide in the sewers to not be found. There, after a bit of arguing, the two begin to know each other better and to confront each other, with Alex saying that in a certain sense they are the same person.

The next morning, having managed to escape the terrorists, Alex and Kelly return to the base surprising Wright who says he had been looking for them all night and feared they were dead. They are informed that Gundars never left the palace. When Alex sees Rachel tired, he advises her to go and rest, he also advises Kelly, and she goes. At this point, Kelly, who has understood what Alex has in mind, encourages him to go to Rachel and reveal his feelings to her, but he is too intimidated by this, so with a ploy of the lens and the earphone and with the addition of the song "Sexual Healing" and Alex really begins to get closer to Rachel and they are about to make love and Alex deactivates the lens.

Suddenly before they start, the pen starts moving on the screen, which means that Gundars is moving to go to a bathhouse, and therefore Alex, Kelly and Rachel have to move too. Once there, Rachel stays outside on guard while Alex and Kelly go in to look for Gundars. Finding nothing, Alex thinks there is a mistake seeing only old people taking baths and saunas, but Kelly is convinced that there is something underneath having a strange feeling and so Alex follows him to the end of the building and ends up falling into an ambush just as Alex suspected who immediately takes it out on Kelly and he gets offended with Alex. A shootout begins in the room where in the end Alex and Kelly manage to escape to safety killing all the men who try to kill them with an explosion of the feud and they exit the building and see Gundars who is escaping in the car and Rachel who starts chasing him. Despite trying to warn her that it is a trap, Rachel chases him and his car explodes with her apparently inside apparently dying.

Alex is shocked and devastated by this, and walks away from Kelly to a public place under a bridge. Kelly follows him and tries to console him, but Alex is furious with him blaming him for what happened and wants to forget about saying that he and Kelly are the same person and the two start arguing and fighting, kicking and punching each other, which ends with Kelly being arrested and Alex returning to the base to find it destroyed and ransacked, and he also receives a call from the BNS and convinces them to continue the investigation. That evening Alex arrives where Gundars and Zhu Tam are and tries to attach a tracker to Gundars' car without success, but in the end, failing, he puts it in the trunk and then hides in there too because he doesn't have time to escape.

The trunk with Alex inside is closed and the car with the villains on it leaves. When Alex hears Gundars and Zhu Tam get off and then start the car, he starts kicking on the trunk causing the driver to stop and go to check and as soon as he opens the trunk, Alex stuns him with a kick and having heard before that they were on one of the towers of a bridge he heads towards there and to enter he also has to distract a guard who is watching Kelly's match, released, killing him. As soon as he arrives at the top of the bridge tower and having located the Switchblade, he takes Gundars hostage to force his men and Zhu Tam to surrender, but he is caught from behind and stunned by Rachel, revealed to be alive and a double-crossing traitor who is on Gundars' side. Alex is tied to a chair and visibly shocked by the fact that Rachel is a double-crosser, but he still tries to deny it with the same jokes that Kelly uses, and for this he is tortured by Rachel.

However, Alex activates the contact lens device thus allowing Kelly to see what is happening to them right while he is in the ring. One of Zhu Tam's men enters the activation code for the plane's switchblade, but it is incorrect and so it starts the self-destruction. Rachel threatens to torture Alex in the same way she would have tortured Kelly in the test if he doesn't tell her the right passwords that she assumes he knows. Luckily, Kelly, who managed to win the championship and rushed there, kills many terrorists with a gun he took on the way while Alex frees himself and immediately starts an argument between them if it is for love or justice that Kelly came. Suddenly Carlos arrives and kills many men and takes Gundars hostage while Alex gets on the plane to deactivate the self-destruction and tries to warn Carlos that Rachel is a double agent. However, when Carlos says he already knows this, Kelly thinks that he is also corrupt and seeing that he also has a gun pointed at Alex, Kelly knocks out Carlos and also tears off his lock of hair with glitter on it much to the horror of both him and Carlos while he faints. Alex gets every password wrong to deactivate the self-destruction but failing to do so, he detaches the explosive from below that is still active and throws it off the bridge and it explodes under them.

In the meantime, Rachel takes advantage of this to steal a weapon and kills both Gundars and Zhu Tam and steals the briefcase with the data, but Kelly fights her with the gun killing other remaining terrorists. Alex, getting off the plane, corners Rachel with Kelly, who however tells them that she really works for BNS and that she pretended to be a traitor only to capture Carlos, suspected of corruption. Alex begins to believe her and to be attracted again and also says that there are types of agents who do a lot of pretending, if it weren't for Kelly who tries to make him see reason. Suddenly Carlos wakes up and is held in his grip by Alex who begins to argue with him and Rachel takes advantage of this to escape.

Carlos angrily takes it out on the two and says that he knew that Rachel was corrupt and has the passwords now, at this point however, a Kelly who has had enough knocks out Carlos again and Alex indignant and confused ties him up. Now that they have the plane however, they play a bit on making it invisible and decide to take it to the BNS and after a turbulent takeoff they take flight, but not for long, since the tank was punctured during the firefight and the plane crashes with Alex and Kelly in the river. However, they manage to survive and find, frightened at first, a nuclear weapon that the terrorists had attached to the fighter, so they decide that the mission went well and that they will be considered heroes. In the end, they manage to track down Rachel thanks to her computer that she uses to access her money accounts, and 36 hours later they arrive in Monte Carlo where they capture Rachel in a hotel and have her arrested and put in custody. Although Rachel tries to seduce Alex again, this time it doesn't work anymore and he is angry even when she is taken away.

However, as Rachel points out as she is being led away, there is a copy of USA Today with a picture of Carlos in a parade with President Bush who claims to have solved the case, much to the annoyance of Alex and Kelly, especially Kelly who complains that he wanted that parade so much and also refuses to accompany Alex to the BNS headquarters for a mission debriefing. However, Alex tells them that the BNS has perfected a gelatinous substance that allows the wearer to float in the air, which Kelly happily agrees to and also reveals that her grandmother punched him in the face because he told her that he wanted to fly like a bird. However, without Kelly hearing, Alex tells an assistant to bring some jars of gelatin and two parachutes, already knowing what awaits them.
