Personality

As boss, Roth took everything from his idol, Ernest Shackleton. He cares a lot about his crew members, and prides himself on knowing instinctively who will be a good crew member. He is a very practical leader, always trying to cheer up his teammates when they are down, having fun and joking being optimistic and realistic, especially with Lara. At times he seems to be numb, he seems to show nothing for his dead comrades, though this is due to the fact that he doesn't want her emotional attachment to him to cloud his judgment.

Roth also calls himself married to the sea, he would like to retire on a large yacht and sail where the wind takes him for the rest of his days. If Lara is right about Yamatai and the meaning of her, hopefully this will be his last work.

Biography

Background

Roth was born in 1961 in South Yorkshire. Not much is known about his childhood, but it appears that he had a working class upbringing and joined the Royal Marine Corps (RM). After that he developed several skills as a freelance wreck diver and treasure hunter, along with his trusted friend and former merchant marine, Grim, and together they got a ship and called it the Endurance. Roth thus traveled the world thus earning a great reputation and to find great valuables.

After Amelia's death, Roth helped Croft recover her body. Against his better judgment, he helped as Croft attempted a ritual he believed would resurrect his late wife. He became paranoid about his research and asked Roth to hire a team of builders to build a secret laboratory to carry out his research in secret.
