Digger is a member of The Band along with Soren and Gylfie and one of the two tritagonists, (alongside Twilight) in The Guardians of Ga'Hoole book series and its 2010 film adaption The Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole.
He is a Burrowing Owl who along with the Band and the Guardians to battle the Pure Ones led by Soren's evil brother Kludd (also known as Metal Beak) and his mate Nyra (though in the film Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole, Kludd and Metal Beak are separate characters with Kludd being a member of the Pure Ones rather than their leader and Nyra's mate).
Digger was born in the Desert of Kuneer to two unnamed Burrowing Owls, who had two other sons Cunny and Flick.
One day, owls from St Aegolius Acadamy for Orphaned Owls (or St Aggie's for short) named Jatt, Jutt said Grimble (who only worked for St Aggie's to protect his family), came to take the three young owls to St Aggie's (as part of a plan to takeover the owl kingdoms). Grimble was able to snatch Cunny, whilst Jatt and Jutt fought over and devoured Flick, but Digger was able to escape.
