Fox Mask (real name Kotoyuki Tsuneki) also known as Shichibi, is one of the two main antagonists (alongside Shiromuku) in the 2025 horror game Silent Hill f, the ninth installment in the Silent Hill franchise. He is the only son of the Tsuneki family, who was born to Hidetoshi and Sachie. And is the heir of the well known wealthy family.
After an incident involving him being attacked, he would be under the influence of Kyubi, who Tsuneki would devote his life to trying to marry Hinako Shimizu.
He was voiced by Yasue Kazuaki in the Japanese version, and Caleb Yen in the English version.
Physical Appearance
He is a tall man, with white hair, who wears traditional Japanese garments (such as a kimeno), also hence the alias "Fox Mask" wears a fox mask that conceals his true face.
Personality
Even though he did attempt to make Hinako forget about her past and who she was, Kotoyuki is very gentle and understanding to Hinak, which appears to be genuine kindness. (Even though, this kindess could have been a guise put own by Kyubi.)
He also express gratitude towards Hinako, as well as being protective of her.
Biography
Past
Kotoyuki was born as the illegitimate son and heir to the Tsuneki family. Kotoyuki's father Hidetoshi didn't recognize his son as his. He and his mother would live in the small rural town of Ebisugaoka, Japan. Kotoyuki would always want to play with kids his age at the playground in town, but was forbidden by it from Sachie who teached him to act like an heir to the family.
A tragic incident at the playground one day, showed Kotoyuki being attacked by a wild fox. Until, he was helped by Hinako. Who Kotoyuki would fall head over heels for on that day. While he was in hospital Kotoyuki would be possessed by a god known as Kyubi. Where he became completely obsessed with Hinako, being studious and wealthy enough in order for her to take his hand in marriage.
After this Kotoyuki and his mom moved away from Ebisugaoka, where the rest of the children and Kotoyuki's dad died at random one day.
Kotoyuki would years later ask Hinako's parents hand in marriage, the latter would accept so they wouldn't be in financial debt anymore.
Silent Hill F
Kotoyoki appears in the game wearing a fox mask when Hinako goes into the Dark Shrine area, where he would give her advice nad guide her through the area. All while a doll tells Hinako not to trust Fox Mask at all, which she does despite her being warned.
This would lead to Hinako being manipulated by Fox Mask, to kill her friends Sakuko, Shu, and Rinko. So she can forget about her childhood all while he brainwashes her. Which leads to Hinako getting tortured in the shrine by having her arm removed, her being branded, and her fce being cut to wear a fox mask of her own.
When Fox Hinako returns to the shrine she is ready to marry Fox Mask, with Hinako transforming into the Shiromuku waiting to kill the original Hinako.
There are four different endings in the game, all of which change the fate of Kotoyuki Tsuneki.
Endings
Coming Home to Roost
He was killed in real-life at the wedding due to a psychotic episode of Hinako's which is revealed to be because of the red pills she had been taking throughout the game, causing her to hallucinate.
Fox's Wedding
Fox Mask destroys Hinako's human self, where Shu becomes friends with Kotoyuki. While Hinako marries Fox Mask at the end.
Fox Wets its Tail
Hinako manages to defeat her fox self, along with rejecting Kotoyuki's offer in marriage who becomes upset and turns into the Shichibi. She defeats Kotoyuki who in return thanks Hinako for always being by his side. Hinako in return thanks him for being so nice to her, Shu shows gratitude as well thanking Kotoyuki for watching over Hinako. Both her and Shu return to Ebisugaoka. Where it is revealed the whole town was evacuated due to volcanic activity.
Ebisugaoka in Silence
Considered the canon ending of the game, Kyubi reveals himself to be the one possessing Kotoyuki, who reveals that he was forced to wed Hinako to protect the fox clan. Kybui was at war with the Tsuknogami,where after the two hinako's beat Kyubi and the Tsuknogami the curse on the town is lifted. Kotoyuki saves the two Hinako's, where her and Tsuneki say goodbye to eachother moving on in their lives, with the two promising to meet again in the future to maybe restart their relationship.
Trivia
- Fox Mask is the fifth antagonist in the Silent Hill series to redeem himself (in two endings) the other ones being Michael Kaufmann, Vincent Smith, Valtiel and Anne Marie Cunningham.
- Kotoyuki is supposedly a descandant of Fox Spirits.
- Much like his crush, Hinako. His path was much as controlled by a society he was apart of, because f his family's expectations as him as the heir of the famil or divine intervention.
- His first name Kotoyukiwritten with the kanji for 寿 koto "long life" and 幸 yuki "joy." While his surname, Tsuneki uses the kanji 常 tsune and 喜 ki for "long-lasting happiness."
