Kopa is the non-canon son of Simba and Nala, the grandson of Mufasa, Sarabi and Sarafina, the great-nephew of Scar and a main character in The Lion King: Six New Adventures books and two German audiobooks Friends for Life and Fight for the Throne.
He doesn't appear in The Lion King II: Simba's Pride as he was rejected by the filmakers of the original film, and as such was unrecognized by the filmmakers of the sequel, and instead his official sister Kiara, served as the cub at the end of the original film. In The Lion Guard, Simba and Nala have an official son named Kion.
Appearance
Kopa greatly resembles his father when he was a cub but with slight differences. Kopa is stockier, has bushier eyebrows, lighter fur (which he gets from Nala) and has a tuft of brown hair on top of his head.
Trivia
- Kopa is highly speculated to be the cub of Simba and Nala in the end of The Lion King. However, this may not be true, as Kopa is not a canonical son of Simba and Nala, as shown in the 1995 commentary tract for the film that describes Simba and Nala's newborn cub as "Fluffy" thus disregarding Kopa from the film.
- Kopa shares a lot of similarities with Kion, the official son of Simba and Nala.
- Phil Weinstein, the storyboard director of The Lion King II: Simba's Pride, admitted during an interview that he had no knowledge of Kopa during production for the film. This could be a reason as to why Kopa did not appear in the film.
- Alex Simmons, the author of The Lion King: Six New Adventures, confirmed that Kopa was never truly affiliated with Disney and was solely his creation with Disney's label.
