Master Mantis is a major character in the WarioWare series, first appearing in WarioWare: Smooth Moves. He is an elderly martial artist who trains his devoted apprentice, Young Cricket. When he was first introduced, he appeared to be a rather serious character, shown training Cricket in difficult conditions, but it is later shown that he fits in with the rest of Wario's friends.
History
WarioWare: Smooth Moves
Mantis and Cricket are out and spot a busy stall selling their favourite food, meat dumplings. Cricket, eager to satisfy their hunger and please his master, runs on top of the other customers' heads to fetch them a portion. When he returns, however, he notes his master's dissapointment in his lack of patience, returning the dumplings and standing in line for them like everyone else.

Mantis appears in the assembly dojo alongside Cricket.
WarioWare Gold
In WarioWare Gold, Mantis takes Young Cricket to an amusement park, pointing out that the rides can also train his student. After passing the trial of the Precious Prancers (which was really just a merry-go-round), Young Cricket joins his master to go to the ferris wheel, but Master Mantis points out Lulu is clinging to his arm and must be shooed off.
He appears again in the first Mix-Up level, dancing at Club Joe. Much like Dr. Crygor, his awful moves turn away customers rather than attract them to the club. Thankfully, the rest manages to compensate for their awful dancing and many customers to go Club Joe.
In the final cutscene, he instructs Cricket to grab Wario as he attempts to escape, forcing the greedy man to watch as everyone divides his remaining money fairly amongst themselves.
WarioWare: Get It Together!
In WarioWare: Get It Together, Master Mantis is sucked into Wario's newest game along with the rest. When the Wario Bug is defeated and most of the gang makes it back to the real world, Wario manages to distract his friends by pointing out Red, Master Mantis and Lulu are missing. The rest jumps back into the game to find them. Master Mantis is found in the Super Hard stage, where he is found sleeping while tied up and upside-down.
Personality
Master Mantis is heavily devoted to martial arts, training in difficult environments. In WarioWare Gold, his serious personality remains, but for comedic effect, as he even goes as far as to "train" Cricket at the Diamond City Amusement Park. Like Cricket, Mantis enjoys dumplings, even more so than Cricket as his Game & Wario character card adds that he likes them "a bit too much." It is shown in one of the Mona Superscoops that his hobby is painting. In his WarioWare Inc. official site profile, it is revealed that he has a "powerful appetite" and that one of his favorite foods is "sweet bean buns." It is also shown he has a mild obsession with food, as he states a dessert buffet "would really hit the spot."
Physical appearance
Mantis is a short, elderly man with defined cheeks, a round red nose, and a grey wavy ponytail that flares into spikes at the end. He also has a black mustache and what appears to be either headphones or hairbuns on either side of his head. His eyes are small black circles. Outside of his appearance in the Wario... Where? version of the Munchy Monk minigame in Rhythm Heaven Megamix, his mouth has never been seen. Mantis typically wears a purple martial arts uniform similar to that worn by Young Cricket, though with a simpler design and bigger sleeves.
