Steve Codelll was a minor hero in the 1988 South African movie Space Mutiny.

He was portrayed by Rufus Swart.

Born on and growing up on the generational starship / manufacturing plant Southgern Sun, Codell became an engineer. He was asked to verify the inventory of explosives on the Sun. During the inventory he found a discrepancy in the amount of high explosives ordered and set about investigating the discrepancy.

Realizing that Elijah Kalgan and his Enforcers had squirreld away the explosives in order to commit mutiny against Commander Jansen, Codell alerted Lieutenat Lemont up on the bridge of the irregularities he found in the ship's inventory. Lemont asked him to come up to the bridge with the evidence. What neither Codell or Lemont realized was that Kalgan was monitoring the transmission.

Kalgan went out to intercept Codell before he could reach the bridge with the evidence that would have exposed Kalgan and his co-conspirators. Cornering Codell on a ramp overlooking the ship's basement, Kalgan gave Codell a choice to either join him or be put in cryogenic suspension. Telling Kalgan that he preferred to jump, Codell began to climb over the railing when Kalgan pushed him off the catwalk to his death.
