| ~ Hutter decides to go home, knowing of Count Orlok's plan. |
Thomas Hutter is the main protagonist of the 1922 silent horror film Nosferatu: A Symphony of Horror and one of the two main protagonists (alongside his wife Ellen Hutter) of its 2024 supernatural horror remake of the same name.
He is an estate agent in Wisborg and the husband of Ellen Hutter. He is tasked to go to the Carpathian Mountains to visit Count Orlok, who is in truth the vampire Nosferatu. When Orlok brings plagues to Wisborg, Hutter tries to warn his wife about him. He was based on Jonathan Harker from the original Dracula novel, which the film is an unofficial adaptation of.
He was portrayed by the late Gustav von Wangenheim in the original film, Emrhys Cooper in David Lee Fisher's 2023 remake, and Nicholas Hoult (who also played R.M. Renfield in Renfield, R in Warm Bodies, Beast in the X-Men franchise, Jon Arbuckle in The Garfield Movie, and Nux in Mad Max: Fury Road) in Robert Eggers' 2024 remake.

Biography
An estate agent working for Knock, Hutter and his wife live a good life together in Wisborg. One day, Knock tells him to go to the Carpathian Mountains to visit Count Orlok and discuss buying a house. In truth, Knock has been brainwashed by Orlok and is helping his master to bring plagues to Wisborg. When Hutter starts to go, Ellen bids him a goodbye. At the mountains, despite the villagers' warnings and having read the Book of Vampires about the vampire Nosferatu, Orlok's true identity, Hutter dismisses them all and continues his journey.
Once at Orlok's castle, he is welcomed by the Count, although the latter's weird behavior whenever there's blood on Hutter worries him. At the night after the buying process is finalized, Orlok reveals his true nature and attempts to drain Hutter's blood. Due to Ellen's psychic connection with her husband, she senses this and walks on the balcony's railing while distracting Orlok away, saving Hutter. This however makes her feel ill and faints. That morning, Hutter goes to Orlok's crypt and finds the Count sleeping in a coffin. Horrified, he returns to his room, and at night, he sees Orlok carries coffins to go to Wisborg, and finds out that the vampire has trapped him in the castle. Hutter tries to escape and succeeds, but faints from the fall and is nursed back to health by the villagers nearby.
Later on, Hutter returns home and Ellen is delighted to see him, while Orlok, who is carrying his own coffin, walks through their house and sees them through the window. Orlok then plots to drain Ellen's blood. Due to Orlok's travel alongside his rats, Wisborg is infected with plagues and several people die in the process, leading to the local authorities declaring a quarantine. Knowing that the vampire is responsible, Ellen reads the Book of Vampire that her husband brought back with him to find a way to defeat Orlok, and finds out that the Nosferatu can be defeated if a pure-hearted woman distracted him with her beauty.
As a result, Ellen willingly lets Orlok bewitch her, causing her to faint. Hutter then goes to ask Professor Bulwer to help his wife. At the same time, Orlok comes to Hutter's house and drains Ellen's blood, forgetting time in the process. When the sun rises, Orlok attempts to escape, but is caught by the sunlight and evaporates in flames. Ellen then wakes up and calls Hutter's name, and he arrives just in time for her to die in his arms.
