The Vineland Thorns, also known as The Thorns, are the main protagonists of Sony Pictures Animation's 31st full-length animated feature film GOAT. It is an official Roarball team that represents the city of Vineland and is known for its fierce, aggressive playstyle and signature thorn-patterned uniforms. It is led by Jett Fillmore, who serves as the team's captain and are coached by Dennis Cooper.
Originally, the Thorns were owned by their manager Flo Everson throughout most of their history until she sold them to Sunken City for her greedy and selfish intention of making a profit. As of now, the team is currently owned by Modo Olachenko, one of its own members, after he won ownership of them in a card game of UNO.
History
At an unknown point in the past, Flo Everson, a manager of Roarball, forms the Vineland Thorns and recruited each of its respective members to play in Roarball to represent Vineland, with Jett Fillmore becoming its leader. However, throughout their past history and for over fifty years, the Thorns never won a single game, which made the team developed a longtime losing streak. As a result, Jett requests Flo to search for a sixth member to be added to the Thorns.
Goat
Many years later in the present, after a video of Mane Attraction falling over on his back by young goat Will Harris went viral, this got Flo's attention and she decided to recruit him into the team, coming to the conclusion that he would be able to turn the tides and change the Thorns' history. Visiting the diner where Will works, Flo offers him the chance to join the team, which he enthusiastically accepts, as he is a lifelong fan of the team, most notably Jett, since he was little. Unfortunately, this did not suit well with Jett, who was enraged of adding a goat to the Thorns, looking down on him for being a small animal and believing that he'll only bring embarrassment but was nevertheless forced to take him in.
As a result, Will faced a rocky start; Like with Jett. he was also looked down on by the rest of the Thorns and was unfairly benched for a few games until Jett was benched herself due to a technical foul when she threatened the referee. This left her with no choice but to begrudgingly allow Will to play. Despite his small size, Will cleverly used it to his advantage and was able to score the team's first win, gaining the respect of his teammates, though this made Jett jealous.
Members
Jett Fillmore
A Black panther, who is the team leader of the Thorns. Radiating pure star power, Jett is more than just a top tier athlete but she is also an icon of peak performance. However in addition to being sassy and arrogant, she was highly competitive, which often puts the team at a disadvantage.
Lenny Williamson
A giraffe and the tallest member of the Thorns. Known for being a laidback, he once played for other teams but got kicked out of each of them for his chill nature and lack of focus until he was eventually signed into the Thorns.
Olivia Blurke
An ostrich who is a member of the Thorns and is best friends with Lenny Williamson. Hyperactive but sensitive and fragile, she is a phone addict, being always on her phone, mainly due to comments she gets from haters online.
Modo Olachenko
A komodo dragon and a member of the Thorns, as well as its current owner. While crazy at times, he is a skilled dancer, with dancing being a hobby to him.
Archie Everhardt
An Indian rhinoceros and a member of the Thorns, as well as a loving and protective father to his twin (but mischievous, chaotic and unpredictable) twin daughters.
Will Harris
A young, teenage goat who is the first small animal player on a Roarball team as well as the youngest Roarball player. Full of optimism, he is daring, hardworking and determined to chase after his goals and dreams so as to make his late mother proud of changing Roarball history.
