hero

Things will go as they will; and there is no need to hurry to meet them.
~ Treebeard

Treebeard is a major character in J.R.R. Tolkien's epic fantasy novel The Lord of the Rings and its many adaptations of the same name, including Peter Jackson's film trilogy. He is the leader of the Ents.

In Peter Jackson's film series, he was voiced by John Rhys-Davies, who also played Gimli in the same series, Sallah in the Indiana Jones franchise, Sangimel in Fire and Ice: The Dragon Chronicles, Cassim in Aladdin and the King of Thieves and Brine King in DCEU's Aquaman films.

Biography

According to Gandalf, Treebeard is the oldest known Ent. He remembers how Elves taught trees how to speak. He had a wife Fimbrethil. But after all female Ents were lost, he and the other male Ents isolated. After the Istari came to the Arda, Treebeard befriended Saruman and talked a lot with him. Treebeard and other Ents didn't partake in The War Of The Ring until he met Merry and Pippin, who escaped Saruman's orks, who kidnapped the earlier. Even after what Merry and Pippin told him, Treebeard initially didn't want to partake in the war and decided to send them back home. But after seeing what Saruman did to the forest, Treebeard and other Ents destructed the entire Isengard and killed all the orks who were there. He also guarded Saruman, but the latter escaped. It is unknown what happened to him after the War of the Ring, but he and other Ents are mentioned searching for their wives. Treebeard even asks Merry and Pippin to tell him if they know something.
