| ~ Wizardmon to Gatomon |
Wizardmon is a minor hero in Digimon Adventure. Gatomon is his counterpart, the two proving very close over the course of the five episodes he appears in.
He was voiced Akira Ishida in the Japanese Version and late Robert Axelrod in the English Version.
Appearance
He resembles a wizard-like monster, having blue skin and sea green eyes. His outfit is made up of a yellow jumpsuit that has a zipper down the front and red accents that match the red vest beneath his tattered purple cape. His cape has white symbols on it in various shapes as well. On his hands are brown gloves that also bear a zipper down the middle of them and a ring on both of his third fingers, and his boots match the color of his gloves, both having moons on them facing opposite directions. His hair is a sandy blonde and is loosely tied back, also having bangs that go down the middle of his face past his eyes. He wears a purple wizard hat on his head that has a skull adornment in the middle, and carries a sun themed staff with a hole in the middle atop a bent wooden stick as the base. his outfit zippers are also moons.
Personality
Wizardmon is a staunchly loyal digimon. Repeatedly, he proves strategic, even when outmatched physically in battle. several times he uses his smarts to get both himself and Gatomon out of trouble, such as when using hot sauce(alcohol) to bribe Demidevimon into not telling Myotismon he was "slacking off". In the past he was very lonely and solitary, but took Gatomon's warnings to heart, making him a bit more open to the idea that not every interaction has to be a kind of exchange. He proves himself to have somewhat of a sense of humour, although usually he is rather serious. As previously stated, he is extremely loyal, to the point he spent an indeterminate amount of time(long enough for Gatomon to forget their first meeting) being by Gatomon's side and looking out for her, even when faced with serious harm for daring to do so, and says that he is glad to be her friend.
History
Digimon Adventure
His very first appearance is in episode 30 where he appears briefly performing magic tricks for children in hopes that it would lure out the eighth child, but has no luck. He does laugh here, making it his first voiced appearance as well but he doesn't appear properly until episode 34 where he takes a more visible role, first seen to sneak up on Gatomon when she's spying on Kari from the rooftop after failing to attack her where it's revealed that they both know each other and that Wizardmon has the ability to read her thoughts. He apparently has done so in the past according to the context of the conversation. He quickly retreats when she scolds him, though. Later that episode, he finds Kari's digivice in a birds nest. He encounters Demidevimon, who questions what he's doing, to which he lies and says he was there because he found hot sauce(in the Japanese dub he implies he was drinking alcohol) and hands the bottle over to avoid getting in trouble, Stating to himself that he wouldn't let Demidevimon take the credit for the find as the other Digimon flies away.
He returns to the rooftop where Gatomon is, showing her the digivice before he tells her he believes the child is not in the woods where he found it, but instead can be found within her own heart. When she is quiet, he asks what's stopping her from remembering, suggesting that she may be afraid of what she finds, encouraging that she can get her memories back. When she lashes out, asking if Myotismon sent him, he assures her that Myotismon did not send him and that he'd not ever been loyal to him, but to her as gratitude for saving his life when he once collapsed on a desert path. It is revealed here that she taught him a lesson of compassion, warning him that solitude would make one's heart grow hard. That it was unavoidable, and happened to even her. Gatomon says she doesn't remember that, but he tells her it is the case. He continues to explain that she revealed to him that she was waiting and searching for someone, but could not remember who. when she presently becomes frustrated at her inability to remember, he watches as she becomes distracted by Kari, then tells her he thinks her search is over, flying over the roof wall to land on the balcony of the Kamiya residence, where Gatomon follows.
Wizardmon and Gatomon meet Kari Kamiya. Wizardmon hands Gatomon the digivice he found, having her bring it close to Kari which causes it to glow. Gatomon asks if she's the eighth digidestined, which Which Wizardmon confirms. furthermore, she asks who her digimon is, to which Wizardmon responds she already knows, implying Kari is the someone she was searching for. Tai Kamiya comes out to check on Kari, hearing that she was talking to someone, and thinking the other two working for Myotismon, tells them to stay back. They manage to convince Tai they won't hurt his sister, though Tai still reluctant. He questions if he could trust Wizardmon, to which he responds that he doesn't care if Tai trusts him or not, that he would always stay by Gatomon, and presents them with Kari's digivice, which Tai holds onto, helping Kari become Gatomon's partner. when questioned about Why he gave Tai the digivice, he claims Kari can't be seen with it, and that Myotismon would destroy Gatomon if he knew she was the digimon of the eighth destined child.
Wizardmon and Gatomon then plan to infiltrate Myotismon's room. they first encounter Bakemon who is on guard duty, initially refusing them entry. Wizardmon swiftly handles the situation, using a thunder ball, which demonstrates Wizardmon also has the ability to wipe memories from a short time, or at least disorient the subject to the point they become confused and are susceptible to suggestion temporarily. they retrieve Kari's Tag and Crest swiftly, Wizardmon correctly deducing that it must be in the coffin, but Myotismon catches the two heroes, immediately figuring out they double-crossed him by stealing the tag and crest, which Wizardmon swiftly pockets. (In the English dub Wizardmon says the one he has is a copy, creating a continuity error as he does in fact have the real one, proven later on). Wizardmon and Gatomon then engage with Myotismon in battle, although they clearly prove no match as he continuously throws both of them around, especially Wizardmon. He tells the both of them that their betrayal will not go unpunished, and Wizardmon responds that he didn't betray him because he was never on his side. Wizardmon is able to dispel his Grizzly Wing attack before being knocked prone by Myotismon's Crimson Lightning and dragged across the ground. Gatomon argues with Myotismon, revealing her to be the eighth dididestined's Digimon, and as punishment the throws Wizardmon into the ocean, bringing Gatomon to tears.
Wizardmon survives, despite Gatomon believing he may be dead, floating on driftwood until he is found by Joe and T.K. Wizardmon urges them to find Kari, as he needs to give her the tag and crest he has, so they pull him up and rescue him where he is temporarily unconscious until he's reawoken by the crest activating when Kari surrenders herself to Myotismon's henchmen. He explains that They need to get the tag and crest to Kari, revealing to Joe and T.K. that Kari is the eighth child and Gatomon is her partner. Ones they land ashore, Wizardmon approaches Lilymon, immediately recognising Myotismon's Nightmare Claw attack, which he heals her from, not defending himself once she becomes defensive towards him, but urging them all to find Kari and Gatomon. Myotismon then flies overhead, revealing he has Gatomon, and Wizardmon resolutely states he won't have her for long. They engavge in a battle with rampaging digimon before heading inside to the TV station, though Wizardmon Collapses from exhaustion, and is carried by Hiroaki, Matt's father, most of the way. When Myotismon flees to the roof, Wizardmon strikes him from behind as he's quipping about Weregarurumon falling from the top of the TV station, causing him to stumble forward and kneel down. Wizardmon then successfully manages to throw Kari her crest. Gatomon gleefully calls out to him before Myotismon sarcastically surmises he's still alive. Wizardmon says it would take more than Myotismon to destroy him before promptly being blasted into the wall by him, falling to the ground and cracking both the window and wall behind him from the force. In the midst of the ensuing battle, Myotismon and Angemon are at odds. Myotismon becomes less pompous as he realised he may be out matched, and in retaliation flips around to surprise attack Gatomon and Kari, causing Wizardmon to jump in the way of the blast, being ultimately killed by it after he assures Gatomon that she shouldn't be sorry for him, and that he was happy she was his friend, marking his final appearance in the original Digimon Adventure.
Digimon Adventure 02
After his death, during the events of Digimon Adventure 02, a few years later, it is revealed that Wizardmon's data ghost remained in the real world and haunts the television station. It was only when he draws in Gatomon and the DigiDestined that Wizardmon's ghost presents a cryptic prophecy concerning Myotismon's return and Ken's redemption through the power of a Golden Digi-Egg.
He returned as a ghost, which made Gatomon happy to see. Wizardmon warned the Digidestined about the Digimon Emperor and more evil around the corner. Before he left, he tried to touch Gatomon's paw, but being a ghost, he was unable to touch her. Wizardmon left, making Gatomon heartbroken.
Now that he had fulfilled his purpose, Wizardmon's ghost departs to the afterlife.
