History
Background
Sir Benjamin Lockwood was the Master of Lockwood Manor. At an unknown point, he married an unknown woman and had a daughter Charlotte Lockwood, but his wife apperantly died during the birth. Charlotte was raised by Benjamin and his housekeeper Iris at the manor. Like her father, Charlotte had a great love for dinosaurs
Lockwood was business partners with Scottish businessman and billionaire John Hammond. The two were good friends and they shared a dream of bringing back dinosaurs from extinction. In order to pursue this dream, Lockwood and Hammond used their respective fortunes and built a laboratory in the subbasement of Lockwood's manor, were, together, created the technology to clone the dinosaurs. They also hired geneticist Henry Wu to aid them in the genetics work.
However, when his daughter named Charlotte had a intention to have a child of her own in creating a first human cloning with her DNA, Benjamin decided to help his daughter with the same technology to clone a perfect human child, naming her Maisie, before Charlotte died from genetic illness.
But Benjamin was successful in his daughter's attempt and, with the help of his housekeeper Iris, he raised Maisie to believe that she is his granddaughter, but never let her see pictures of his daughter from knowing the truth about Maisie's status as a clone. Sometime later, Benjamin was diagnosed with an illness and hired Eli Mills to handle his business affairs while he recovers.
Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom
When Mount Sibo on Isla Nublar starts to erupt threatening the dinosaurs. Benjamin plans a rescue mission to save the dinosaurs and bring them to an island sanctuary. He later asks Claire Dearing through Mills to help with the operation ensuring the dinosaurs safety. He later connects with his granddaughter Maisie Lockwood and when she asks what her mother was like and if she looks like her. He says she looks and is like her. He also says she went to the park once.
Unknown to Benjamin, however, Mills uses this operation to auction the dinosaurs and get a bone from the now deceased Indominus rex in order for Dr. Henry Wu to create the Indoraptor, and Mills only needed Claire to get Blue the Velociraptor to finish the experiment. He leaves Claire and her group to die. Maisie finds out about the auction when she overhears Mills talking to auctioneer Gunnar Eversol. She attempts to warn her grandfather about the auction, but he dismisses it as a misunderstanding that he would clear up in the morning and told her to go to bed.
The next night, when Benjamin finds out about the auction, he realizes Maisie was right and angrily confronts Mills for going behind his back and preparing to sell the dinosaurs. He orders him to call the police and report his actions to shut down the auction, but Mills instead tells him that John Hammond was right about his cloning his daughter being an unholy act and he is a hypocrite. Mills then suffocates Benjamin to death by smothering him with a pillow. Mills covers his action saying Benjamin Lockwood died in his sleep.
Benjamin is later avenged when Rexy the T-rex eats Mills after the other dinosaurs escape the mansion once Maisie sets them free.
Jurassic World: Dominion
Benjamin does not appear in Jurassic World: Dominion (due to him now being long dead) but he is mentioned several times throughout the film. It's revealed that Lockwood didn't actually clone Maisie, but actually had a daughter named Charlotte Lockwood, who cloned herself as a desperate measure to have a child of her own despite her infertility. When Hammond found about this, he opposed Charlotte's intentions (as he finds human cloning to be 'unholy'), but Charlotte refused to give up her dreams and Lockwood defended her, which is what led to the fallout between Lockwood and Hammond in the first place.
Charlotte's video diaries also revealed her pregnant with Maisie and showing her infant daughter on screen. Wu revealed that Charlotte had a terminal genetic disease, and that to prevent Maisie from succumbing to the same illness, she healed her daughter-clone with a genetic treatment. Wu also revealed that the story of Charlotte dying in a car crash and that Lockwood used her DNA to create Maisie was all just a ruse formulated by Lockwood, all just to defend Charlotte's legacy.
