Chris Chambers is the deuteragonist of the 1986 film Stand by Me. He has a family of alcoholics and rejects and is labelled as one, but he attempts to break that tradition and hopes to go to college with Gordie someday. He is the leader of his group. His older brother is "Eyeball," the right-hand man of local bully "Ace" Merrill. As an adult, he was a lawyer and attempted to break up a fight in a fast-food restaurant, only to get stabbed and die.
He was portrayed by the late River Phoenix, who also portrayed the titular character's younger self in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.
Overview
Chris is a 12-year-old with attitude and a lot of promise. Chris is heroic in the face of danger and loyal to his best friends Gordie, Vern, and Teddy. That’s especially true when they embark on a mission to find a missing boy in their town and end up finding much more than they expected, learning about themselves and about the small town they live in.
Personality
Chris is charismatic, complex, and conflicted. Chris is from a family of social outcasts and criminals, and so people assume that he will grow up to be just like them. But Chris has a good head on his shoulders and could easily succeed in school if he wanted to apply himself.
