Filburt Shellbach is an anthropomorphic turtle, one of Rocko's best friends and the tritagonist of the animated television series Rocko's Modern Life and the comic book series of the same name.

Whenever Filburt feels uncomfortable or disturbed, he is known to say, "I'm nauseous! I'm nauseous!" He also occasionally says, "Oh, boy" and "Oh, fishsticks."

He was voiced by Doug Lawrence in his debut role, who also voiced Plankton and Rube Goldfish in SpongeBob SquarePants, and Edward Platypus in Camp Lazlo.

Personality

Filburt is a neurotic, nerdy, and friendly turtle who is Rocko's other best friend, along with Heffer Wolfe. He is shown to have nausea frequently, as he usually states, "I'm nauseous" repetitively, which serves as a running gag throughout the show. Together, they all get into misadventures that puts their lives in jeopardy, and they usually have to find their way out of them.

He is shown to have a rivalry with Heffer at times, such as when they both want Rocko to take them to a wrestling match and fought for his decision, and them fighting over which of their cartoon characters was better. He falls in love with Dr. Paula Hutchison and eventually becomes her husband. They are also the parents to four children, though Filburt is secretly suspicious that only three of them are his, as while two his sons look like him and his daughter looks like Paula, his remaining son looks remarkably like Heffer.

Trivia

• His "Mr. Cheese" character in the episode/show "Wacky Delly" constantly calls itself "the best character on the show," presumably as a reference to the fact that Filburt himself is voiced by one of the writers of Rocko's Modern Life (Doug Lawrence, who would later become the voice actor for Plankton in SpongeBob SquarePants) and has many of said show's best lines.
• Owing to his evidently unstable personality, one piece of fanon Rocko's Modern Life content casts him as the main antagonist: Filburt the Murderer, where he downright became an emotionally unstable mass murderer, as he got such a thrill killing almost 2,300 people in O-Town, he couldn't resist going back for more. This happened after he blew up the Cine-O-Plex theater, presumably killing everyone inside, and got away with it in With Friends Like These.
