Hachiemon, also called simply Hachi, is one of the supporting characters of InuYasha series. He is a tanuki from Awa who serves Miroku.
He was voiced by late Toshihiko Nakajima in the original series and currently Chafurin in Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon and Terry Klassen in the English version.
Appearance
Being a tanuki, he has brown fur all over his body with cream fur on his face. He also wears clothes, giving him a very anthropomorphic appearance.
Personality
He is an unremarkable being, but he understands Miroku well. Additionally, while Hachi is is generally rather cowardly and tends to complain a lot whenever helping out Miroku, he nonetheless always stays loyal to him and aids him to the best of his ability even when Miroku's treating him harshly. On the more comical side, he has also occasionally demonstrated a similar talent for womanizing, at least whenever he's disguised as Miroku, that equals, if not surpasses Miroku's own ability. Although Miroku was initially upset about this form of deceit, in typical fashion, he quickly changed his tone and asked him for advice on how he did it so well, much to Sango's annoyance and anger.
Although Hachi is Miroku's servant, he often does not travel with him.
History
He took the form of Miroku to sell fake seals and get away with the ladies. But when Miroku catches him, he is being assaulted by a spirit haunting a cave. Hachi sometimes acts as the transportation for InuYasha's group, and would risk his life to take them into the heart of enemy territory or ship them out of danger when it's necessary.
Powers & Abilities
His basic abilities are low and he has no weapons or skills for battle. When he runs away, he can lay down a smoke screen to deceive enemies.
- Transformation: Since he is a tanuki, he has the ability to transform. If he puts a leaf on his head and transforms, he can assume the form of a giant yellow gourd.
- Flight: When transformed, he can fly in this giant yellow gourd.
