The Russian Military is an anti-heroic faction in the sequel to TimeSplitters.
History
Challenges
In "Top Shot", Sergeant Shock proves his authority to Captain Snow, Lieutenant Frost, Trooper White, Sergeant Shivers, and Nikolai during combat training.
In "Men in Grey", a bunch of suits have been seen near the Training Ground blockhouse. They've put in some computers and it looks like they might be starting a dotcom consultancy business. With Lieutenant Bush's help, Private Grass hits them hard and fast before they try to float the company and pocket the cash; he kills them all and blows up their operations.
In "Hangar Hats Off", some evil henchmen start a shootout with the special forces down at the old hangar. Sergeant Shock kills the henchmen, with the assistance of Captain Night, Lieutenant Shade, Trooper Black, and Private Coal.
In "Pane in the Neck", today's military training involves breaking all the glass in the Siberian compound. Nikolai managed this in one minute flat. Lieutenant Frost must beat his time or she'll be the laughing stock of the barracks for weeks.
In "Bricking it", after Private Poorly's incident with a grenade the previous day, all ammunition has been confiscated until further notice. This is no excuse to miss training, though; Lieutenant Frost must improvise by instead lobbing bricks through the glass panes.
In "Dam Bursters", the Russian mafia objects to the building of the Siberian Dam, and is trying to destroy it through the tactical use of exploding monkeys. It's up to Sergeant Shock to save the villages downstream by shooting the monkeys with a minigun before they reach the dam.
In the "Siberia" mission, curiosity got the better of Private Nikolai; he investigated gunshots that he'd heard coming from the research area within the caves under the dam. When his friend Sergeant Shivers finds him, they encounter the large Private Poorly, who had become a zombie. Poorly hits the two across their faces with a big punch, and the three aren't seen again. However, in the challenge "Day of the Dammed", Nikolai survived and escaped into the testing lab, where he is cornered by his undead colleagues. Gunshots or no gunshots, he'd have been better off steering clear of the research centre altogether, and he should definitely have taken his gun. He defends himself against a horde of zombies using just his fists for as long as he can.
Siberia
In 1990, researchers at the Oblask Dam had found a Reaper Splitter's frozen corpse, which had time-travelled from 2401 back to 10,000 BC, in a failed attempt to end humanity. The military's arctic force was called to the Oblask Dam after its previous researchers had fled; the military's own researchers would then use the Splitter's DNA to experiment on several soldiers, with dire consequences.
The soldiers who'd volunteered for the experiments (including the high-ranking Captain Pain) became soulless zombies, who broke from containment and killed several off-duty soldiers and researchers, who were eating watermelon at the time. The higher number of zombies then roamed the facility and infected more soldiers they came across, before being contained once more.
Captain Night's elite special cleanup crew were then called to eliminate the threat. However, a short time before the cleanup crew arrived, Sergeant Cortez (under a high-tech disguise as local merc Ilsa Nadir) infiltrated the facility under the dam and eliminated the undead, along with any soldiers that got in his way. He destroyed the Reaper's corpse, along with all evidence of its existence and research.
Trivia
- Most members are named after the colour of their uniforms.
- Private Coal has a secret crush on his commander, Lieutenant Shade.
- Private Sand and Captain Sand have the same surname, hinting at relation.
- Trooper Green suffers from hay fever, which his gasmask is a great help with.
- Sergeant Rock is a bit of a matchmaker, always helping his colleagues to get the girl they want.
- Lieutenant Frost is an accomplished curling champion. She practices on the frozen lake behind Oblask Dam. In the Future Perfect challenge, "Brass Monkeys", Mischief curls with monkeys as an homage.
- As seen in this trailer, some military characters were initially playable in Future Perfect.
- All five sergeants are black, whilst all the privates, lieutenants, troopers, and captains are white.
- All five lieutenants are female, whilst all the privates, sergeants, troopers, and captains are male.
- Due to his name and thick accent, Nikolai is the only confirmed Russian. Captain Snow, Sergeant Rock, Private Sand, Private Grass, and Private Coal seem to be North American, due to the accent in their yell ("Aay! It burns!") if they are lit on fire.
- Feeder Zombie and Trooper Grey were voiced by Graeme Norgate, the game's music composer and sound designer, who also voiced Badass Cyborg, Fingers McKenzie, Police Zombie, the Mummies, the Golems, and the Cropolite. Private Poorly, Sergeant Slate, Captain Pain, Gideon Gout, Arthur Aching, and Jed reuse Feeder Zombie's clips.
- Whilst Captain Pain became a zombie due to being a volunteer for an experiment, Sergeant Slate became a zombie due to tampering with biological samples in the labs. Private Poorly became a zombie in the underground caverns, meaning he was probably attacked by another zombie. It is unknown how Trooper Grey and Lieutenant Chill became undead.
- Regarding overall robustness and accuracy, Private Grass, Private Sand, Nikolai, and the human Lieutenants (Shade, Bush, Wild, and Frost) are tied as the weakest, with Sergeants Wood, Rock, and Shivers being very marginally stronger. Sergeant Shock, Private Coal, and the human Troopers (Black, Green, Brown, and White) are equally stronger than that. Captain Pain, Trooper Grey, Lieutenant Chill, Sergeant Slate, Private Poorly, and Feeder Zombie are a bit stronger, while Captains Night, Forest, Sand, and Snow are tied as the strongest.
