Heroine Overview

Pollen, buzz on!
~ Chloé during her transformation into Queen Bee.
Ridiculous! Utterly ridiculous!
~ Chloé's catchphrase.
No, Hawk Moth! I am a superheroine! I am Queen Bee! Ladybug will come and get me when she needs me! I WILL NEVER JOIN YOU!
~ Chloé forcefully rejecting Hawk Moth's attempt at akumatizating her.

Chloé Bourgeois, formerly known as Queen Bee, is a major antagonist in ZAG Entertainment's Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug and Cat Noir franchise.

She was a student in Miss Bustier's class at Collège Françoise Dupont and the rival of Marinette Dupain-Cheng for the first five seasons of the show. She is also the daughter of André bourgeois (the former mayor of Paris) and Audrey Bourgeois (Queen of fashion and Director of Style Queen).

In the season 2 episode "Style Queen", she finds the Bee Miraculous which, when inhabited by the kwami Pollen, can transform her into Queen Bee, a bee-themed superhero. In the season 3 episode "Miraculer", Ladybug will no longer call upon Chloé to be Queen Bee due to the risk her identity being public knowledge places upon both Chloé and her family. Things turned to worst for Chloé in the two part season 3 finale, as a result of Hawk Moth purposely placing her into a position which left her isolated and emotionally vulnerable enough to be manipulated and Ladybug's neglect (prioritizing sabotaging Adrien's time with Kagami over getting Chloé's aid to deal with her akumatized parents), she ends up betraying Ladybug and Cat Noir and joins Hawk Moth, thus becoming a villain once again in the end of season 3. She is succeeded by her half-sister, Zoé Lee, whom was introduced in season 4.

She was voiced by Marie Chevalot in the original French version and Selah Victor in English.

Appearance

She has light ocean blue eyes and blonde hair in a ponytail. As a civilian, she wears a yellow jacket with long sleeves and white buttons over a white, black-striped shirt, white jean capris held with a faux diamond-studded belt, and white and black dress shoes. She also has a golden chain necklace with a spherical charm attached, and black, white-rimmed sunglasses on top of her head. She also keeps blue eyeshadow, pale lipstick, and light peach blush.

As Queen Bee, she wears a yellow suit with a black collar and black stripes and a black domino mask with a yellow streak at the top.

Personality

Chloé is portrayed as a spoiled, arrogant and superficial girl with a fierce temper much like her mother that flares when she is provoked or frustrated.

On the surface she possesses an abrasive and selfish demeanor, and although much of it is genuine, “Malediktator” has Chloé reveal that a large amount of her behavior actually masks a massive inferiority complex deeply rooted in her abandonment issue stemming from her Mother's neglect and walking out on her for nearly her entire life which has caused Chloé to try and emulate her mother's unpleasant behavior in a vain attempt to win her affection. Additionally, this insecurity has occasionally revealed that Chloé possesses a lack of self-confidence behind her arrogance, feeling that nothing she does has any real value no matter what she tries, even referring to herself as "useless" to Ladybug in "Malediktator". This is best seen in “Miraculer” where Chloé despite nearly defeating Mayura and becoming the closest person at this one of the series to reclaim one of the villains’ miraculous, was so caught up in the fact that Mayura gone away from her, that she downplayed her accomplishment to nonexistence when informing Ladybug that Mayura got away.

Despite, her usual harsh and self centered behavior, occasionally Chloé has been shown to be remorseful towards her actions. as seen when she apologized to Miss Bustier about forgetting her birthday, ruining the present Marinette made for her and her temper, causing trouble for everyone. After being deakumatized in "Queen Wasp", she sincerely apologized to Ladybug and Cat Noir for selfishly using her superpowers and for what happened to Pollen because of her actions, and express great guilt for being the reason for her father's akumatization in “Malediktator” to the point of crying. This often leads her to show small genuine gestures, such as gifting Sabrina a gift after being mean to her during “Antibug” or quietly placing a birthday gift to Miss Bustier during “Zombizou”.

Chloé has on occasions, expressed a willingness to put her grievances with those she dislikes aside when it matters most, as seen during the season two finale where she worked with and defended, Alya and Nino whom she normally dislikes, and during “Felix” where she pushed her rivalry with Marinette and her dislike of the rest of her class aside to comfort her childhood friend, Adrien, on the anniversary of his mother's disappearance.

At times, Chloe can be rather cowardly, and easily scared of the dangers often caused by akumatized villains. However when those she cares about or admires are in need or in danger, Chloé will push aside her fears to aid them, even when it means placing herself in danger or even if it means being killed; As seen when she rushed to save Ladybug from being cataclysm when Cat noir was mind-controlled in “Despair Bear’, stood protectively in front of Sabrina without a second thought during Hawkmoth's second attempt at a scarlet akuma army in “Ladybug”, sacrificing herself to protect Ladybug during “Zombizou” and finally when attempting to assist Ladybug against her akumatized mother in “Style Queen” in order to save Adrien despite knowing her mother would turn her into a golden statue for the betrayal.

Her determination to achieve whatever goal she set is almost unwavering, causing her to do almost anything, including using some of the underhanded tactics her father taught her from his political career, to achieve it. Nearly matching this determination however, is Chloé’s loyalty, best shown in “Miraculer” where Chloé's loyalty and trust in Ladybug made her the first in the series capable of resisting Hawk moth's akumatization.

Although Chloé accepted her retirement with grace during “Miraculer”, and shown to still retain her heroic qualities for nearly the entire remainder of the season, during the finale, “Heart Hunter”, she was emotionally manipulated by Hawk moth into hating the heroes to the point of betraying them and aiding him in “Miracle Queen”. Notably however, she only agrees to join him on the condition that her parents be released first.

Following the events of “Miracle Queen” Chloé continues to express disdain towards the heroes, primarily Ladybug, multiple seasons later, her behavior meanwhile also appears to worsen in season five due to a Hawk moth and Lila's manipulation of her throughout multiple episodes, resulting in Chloé becoming far crueler than what was originally depicted in previous seasons. However, after Lila and Hawk Moth ultimately abandoned her at the end of "Revolution," Chloé appears to have partially reverted to the personality she displayed in the earlier seasons within Season Six, even with her older half-brother, Noé, to some extent continuing where the duo left off, with Audrey's support. Best seen in "Queen of the Dreadzone," where Chloé upon returning to Paris to work on her movie briefly attempts to go against Marinette, Zoé, and Sabrina only after the three intentionally drew her attention, rather than actively seeking them or her former classmate on her own.

Although her personality as Queen Bee doesn't change much, Chloé much like Cat Noir, has a bit of a habit of leaping before she looks, meaning she is hasty or quick to act, as seen in "Catalyst", where she was eager to fight against Hawk Moth's army or in "Malediktator", where she quickly apologized to her father instead of listening to Ladybug's plan first. She is shown to be hesitant on occasion, such as when she had to fight against her akumatized parents in "Mayura". Notably however, when in battle she'll rush in to save lives, as seen again in “Mayura” where she helped saved civilians, and protected her allies.

As Antibug, most of Chloé's personality remains the same except that she is more vengeful towards Ladybug, due to akumatization amplifying negative emotions. She enjoys taunting her and Cat Noir about their teamwork believing she is weak without him and that Cat Noir is playing second fiddle.

As Queen Wasp, Chloé is prideful and arrogant towards Cat Noir and Ladybug, believing herself to be a more exceptional hero worthy of her mother's praise than both of them and wants to prove it by taking away their Miraculouses.

Powers & Abilities

As a civilian

Chloé, having grown up in politics due to her father's position, knows how to cheat, manipulate, fool, and humiliate others for her own personal success. If she has a goal in mind, she will do whatever it takes to achieve it, even if it means sabotaging others and bringing them down. Chloé is also a skilled dancer, having eight years of private training from Aurélie Dupont as revealed in "Frightningale"

As Queen Bee

Queen Bee has enhanced physical capabilities and is quite flexible and agile, easily able to do a backflip from the floor to the top of a stage. However, while her durability has been greatly enhanced, she is notably not strong enough to stop a subway train by herself, requiring both Cat Noir and Ladybug's help. She can yank the pull string on her spinning top to send it onto the ground and let it spin, which then allows her to travel with it by either riding it or letting the top pull her. Using her top, she can travel much faster than Ladybug and can reach her destination much quicker than other Miraculous holders. She can also use her weapon to attack and protect. Her superpower, Venom, allows her to use the top as a stinger, immobilizing her target for a set amount of time. As Queen Bee, she is shockingly skilled in hand-to-hand combat, as seen in “Miraculer” where she was able nearly defeat Mayura, who is considerred one of the show's top fighters.
