Sam Gideon is the protagonist of the game Vanquish. Sam is a researcher under the affiliation of the DARPA Department, and is responsible for the creation of the Augmented Reaction Suit.

He is voiced by Gideon Emery, who also voiced Mac and Gideon in the Call of Duty series, John Connor in the Terminator: Salvation tie-in video game, Poseidon in the God of War series, Steve Fox in the Tekken series, Henry Blackburn in Battlefield 3, Laurence Nelson in The Wonderful 101, Carlos Oliveira in Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City, Fergus Reid in the Wolfenstein series, Gaius in Fire Emblem Awakening, and Moon Knight in Avengers Assemble.

Bio

Sam is a 36 year old member of DARPA (The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency) and helped design the Augmented Reaction Suit, a cutting-edge mechanical armor he wears in battle. His mission is to retake an American space station/power plant hijacked by renegade Russians. Sam loves to smoke, and has an assistant called Elena Ivanova, who provides on-the-fly tactical information about his surroundings. His in game loading screen information states that he had a successful college football career, which was cut short by injury. He is officially accompanying the army to test the battle suit, though his true mission is to rescue Professor Candide.

Personality

Sam Gideon has shown himself as a courageous and talented individual, as he can take anything Zaitsev throws at him. This also makes him somewhat reckless to the point of charging at the enemy without consent from anyone. Despite this, Sam was shown to have strong morals as he was disgusted at the idea of sacrificing Marines to secure a breach within SC-01, which prompted him to question Burns's ability to lead.

Abilities

Despite being a researcher, Sam is a formidable individual where his skills have earned him the respect and compliments of Lt. Col. Robert Burns and Victor Zaitsev.

Intelligence: Despite his demeanour, Sam helped Professor Francois Candide in the development of the ARS and was able to get Burns' Bravo Company out of several sticky situations.

A.R.S. skills: As the sole operator of the ARS, Sam is a powerful foe to his enemies, having destroyed many R.I.'s. However, the suit is a prototype, and has limiters on it to protect the user, but when they are unlocked in a few situations as instructed by Sam, he becomes much more powerful.
