I, Straizo, shall show you no mercy!
~ Straizo's catchphrase

Straizo is a minor protagonist in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Phantom Blood and a minor antagonist in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Battle Tendency. A former student of Tonpetty, Straizo fell from grace due to his lust for eternal youth, resulting in his betrayal of his allies in order to achieve this immortality.

He was voiced by Nobuo Tobita in Japanese and by the late Dave Mallow in English.

History

Phantom Blood

Straizo traveled to England with Tonpetty and Dire to search for their friend and fellow Hamon user Will Zeppeli. In the outskirts of Windknight's Lot, south of London, the group met Jonathan Joestar, Robert E. O. Speedwagon and Poco, who informed them of Will's death at the hands of Tarkus moments earlier. Later, Straizo joined the team in fighting Dio Brando and his zombies. Straizo was present when Jonathan and Erina departed on their honeymoon.

Following Dio's attack onboard the liner and Jonathan's death, Straizo adopted a baby girl named Lisa Lisa, whose mother had been killed by Dio's zombies. It was during this time he started secretly admiring Dio and sought the power of the Stone Mask for himself.

Battle Tendency

In 1938-9, Straizo accompanied Speedwagon to a site in Mexico, where they discovered countless more Stone Masks. Straizo was called to use his Hamon to destroy the masks, but he instead seized the opportunity to betray Speedwagon, supposedly kill him (though he is later revealed to have survived) and don one of the masks, turning himself into a vampire to secure his eternal youth, throwing away all heroic duty in the process.

Straizo later decided to track down and kill Joseph Joestar to eliminate the last remaining Hamon user known to him. The vampire tracked down Joseph and his friend, Smokey, at a restaurant in New York. Overconfident in his new abilities, he believed the young Hamon user stood no chance against his powers, but he was proved wrong when Joseph pulled out a Thompson submachine gun and blasted Straizo through the window of the restaurant. Despite his scarf acting as a Hamon insulator, protecting him from Joseph's attacks, Joseph managed to outwit him by sneaking a belt of grenades into his scarf, blowing up the vampire to shreds.

After regenerating his body, Straizo took a hostage and confronted a fleeing Joseph and Smokey on the Brooklyn Bridge. Joseph tried to bluff to save the hostage, but Straizo plucked out one of her teeth, showing that he was serious about killing her. Enraged by this heinous act, Joseph bravely charged at Straizo, and successfully countered his laser eye attack with his Hamon, reflecting the beam back at Straizo and incapacitating him. Defeated, Straizo informed Joseph of the threats he and Speedwagon found in Mexico, and proceeded to use his own Hamon to commit suicide. In his last moments, Straizo told Joseph he had no regrets, and would rather go to Hell with his youth intact.
