Biography

Thaedus was born in Viltrum. He would later become one of Emperor Argall's servants. However, becoming disillusioned tyranny of the empire and disgusted by the cruelty of emperor Argall, he defected and assassinated Argall by impaling his skull with a knife hoping this would put a stop to his influence over his people. When instead it allowed an even worse ruler to rise to power, Thaedus fled Viltrum and became known as "The Betrayer".

Thaedus established the Coalition of Planets to fight against the Viltrum Empire. Seeing how the Viltrumites doubled down on their cruelty, Thaedus would later bio-engineer the Scourge Virus and spread it on the planet, ultimately causing the deaths of 99.9% of the Viltrumite population.

Thaedus had sent out Allen to test out Planetary defenses to see if they can withstand a Viltrumite attack. Thaedus became interested in Invincible, the first known Viltrumite since himself to not suport the empire and urged Allen to bring Invincible to the Coalition of Planets. Thaedus also revealed to Allen that he too is a Viltrumite. Invincible turned down Thaedus' invitation, but Allen succeeded in recruiting Omni-Man to the Coalition.

Thaedus had a back-up plan just in case the Coalition of Planets failed against the Viltrumite Empire. He had scientist bio-engineer a new form of the scourge virus that would by-pass the old anti-bodies in Viltrumites causing their extinction.

Thaedus had been making preparations for the Viltrumite War with the help of Allen and Nolan. Together, they discovered the weaknesses of the Viltrumites and convinced Nolan's sons to join the fight. Thaedus assembled a team for the Coalition of Planets, capable of challenging the Viltrumite Empire. Just as they were about to commence the war, Talescria was attacked. Thaedus recognized that the moment to strike had arrived. He and his squad of heroes followed the Viltrumites back to their home planet. An explosive battle erupted in the orbit of Viltrum. Thaedus informed Invincible and Nolan that it was time to launch their assault on the planet. The three of them descended like human asteroids, delivering a devastating blow to Viltrum. This act only enraged Grand Regent Thragg, who retaliated by ripping Thaedus's head off, killing him and avenging Argall.

With Thaedus dead, Allen became the leader of Talescria and the Coalition of Planets. Upon returning home, he received Thaedus's final will and testament on an info tablet. Thaedus revealed a perfected scourge virus designed to exterminate all Viltrumite life. He urged Allen to forget his Viltrumite friends and allies and to use the virus for the good of the universe. Thaedus implored Allen not to let his sacrifice be in vain. Eventually, Thaedus was avenged when Mark killed Thragg.

Powers & Abilities

Thaedus' Viltrumite physiology grants him the same powers as Omni-Man; He's born with an enhanced lung capacity, a healing factor, superhuman speed, flight, dominant DNA, invulnerability, superhuman endurance, the ability to travel through space, superhuman strength, a slowed down aging process, and superhuman stamina. Thaedus is also a well capable hand-to-hand fighter and leader.

This news brings with it many questions. Questions with the potential to turn the tide in our favor. If one Viltrumite has abandoned his post, so too, it stands to reason, could others. If Viltrumite offspring born on alien worlds have no loyalty to the Viltrum Empire — we must discover if there are more. The Viltrumites' current tactic of spreading their forces throughout the universe in hopes of individually conquering multiple planets at once may be proven folly. If that be the case, we must learn to exploit this weakness.
~ Thaedus to the Council after learning of Invincible fighting Omni-Man and Omni-Man then leaving Earth.
There is a mole within the head Council of the Coalition. Until he is discovered and eliminated — no one is safe. The very Coalition itself is in jeopardy. This could very well be the beginning of the end.
~ Thaedus to a comatose Allen after discovering a mole within the Coalition.
I know the specific strength levels of a Viltrumite, Allen ... because I am a Viltrumite!
~ Thaedus revealing his secret to Allen.
Say nothing. I know this must come as a shock. I was the first to rebel against the Empire. I founded the Coalition of Planets to defend the universe against the evils of my own people. I thought I was an anomaly, one of a kind, the only Viltrumite with the audacity to rebel — until you brought back the story of this other on Earth. Until you told me of Invincible.
~ Thaedus realizing that he isn't alone.
Nearly extinct ... Less than fifty pure bloods ... I had no idea. I didn't know.
~ Thaedus upon being told of the extent of the damage done by the Scourge Virus.
When you told me of our people's genocide ... I wasn't completely unaware of what had transpired. I turned my back on my people because I grew to believe their actions to be for lack of a better word ... evil. I have dedicated my life to bringing an end to their tyranny. I will stop at nothing to bring an end to this age of violence and fear. But I never knew ... I was unaware of the extent of the damage I'd brought to the Viltrumites. Step through this door. The worst thing to ever happen to our people ... It was my genetic signature that made it possible.
~ Thaedus revealing to Nolan what made him defect and the origins of the Scourge Virus.
And although it could mean suicide for us and the potential extinction of our people ... If I believe our cause to be lost, I won't hesitate to use it again.
~ Thaedus revealing a new strain of the Scourge Virus he would use as a last resort to win the Viltrumite War.
The Viltrumite War is over. Over the last twenty-four hours we've received word from nearly eighty-percent of the worlds counted as part of the Viltrum Empire. They've been abandoned by their Viltrumite overlords. Seeing that we now have Viltrumites on our side has turned them to our favor. They see the Coalition as being stronger than the Empire, and without their bosses watching over them ... they've switched sides. But where have these Viltrumites gone? Their recent disappearance seems to corroborate my assistant's intel about the Viltrumites regrouping on Viltrum, staging one final strike against us. This is their last gasp — and it will not succeed. We will launch a counter-attack. We will strike before they have time to do any planning. We will meet them on their home turf and destroy what little hope they have of succeeding. Are you ready to finish this?
~ Thaedus to Tech Jacket, Invincible, Allen, Nolan, Battle Beast, Space Racer and Oliver Grayson before the Battle of Viltrum.
Thaedus: Hear me, Viltrumites. It is over. Your planet is gone, you have nowhere else to run. The universe is united against you. There is nothing left but surrender.
Thragg: You ... You brought this upon us all — It is you who set this in motion — Carried it out — Thaedus of Viltrum ... Betrayer. You have taken it all from us. Our heritage ... our home ... our history ... Destroyed. The Viltrum Empire will not stand for this!
Thaedus: You will do what you will and I am prepared for your wrath. But know this, Thragg, whatever happens here ... you have no empire.
~ Thaedus and Thragg after the destruction of Viltrum — Thaedus's last words.
Allen, if you are reading this, then I am dead. Forgive my arrogance, but if I have met my end, I can only assume the war against the Viltrumites has taken a turn for the worse. There is a weapon that I regret to inform you I have kept a secret. There is a secret passage in my chamber, I have marked its location on this blueprint. As my chosen successor, you should not have difficulty gaining access. I apologize that I had to keep this secret, but with Viltrumites as our allies, I had to consider this as a last resort. The Scourge Virus. The virus that ravaged the Viltrumite population ... Nearly killed them all. There is a stronger strain, perfected ... It will not fail this time. If the war efort appears lost, I urge you to use it ... Ignore your attachment to our Viltrumite allies. For the good of the universe. Eradicate all Viltrum life ... forever. Whatever you do, make certain that I did not die in vain.
~ Thaedus's will and request to Allen.

TV Series

General Telia: Even though you've dedicated your life to stopping them, they're still you're people.
Thaedus: No, they haven't been my people for a very long time. This is exceptional news.
~ Thaedus disowning his Viltrumite heritage.
I was the first to turn my back on our people's cruelty. The first to reject Argall and his rule of strength. And the first to risk everything for my beliefs. Now we are two.
~ Thaedus telling Nolan how they are the first two pure-blooded Viltrumites to become better people.
Thaedus: It isn't enough, is it?
Nolan: Even as diminished as they are, our people are strong, and many of their conquered planets will continue fighting for them out of fear.
Thaedus: This is why we need you, Nolan. And your son. Not just for your strength, but for what you represent.
Nolan: I said no.
Thaedus: Mark is already a part of this, and the Viltrumites will come for him sooner or later. Doesn't he deserve a chance to save his world?
~ Thaedus's need for Nolan and Invincible to join the fight against the Viltrumites.
Nolan: (visibly trembling) How? How do you have this?
Thaedus: Because I was the one who created it.
Nolan: (Grabs Thaedus by the neck) You?! Do you know what you did?! How many suffered and died?!
Thaedus: No. Not until you told me. Our people hid their wound well.
Nolan: WOUND?! YOU BROUGHT US TO THE EDGE OF EXTINCTION! YOU KILLED BILLIONS!
Thaedus: As we've killed billions of others before!
~ Thaedus confronted by Nolan for creating the Scourge Virus and killing off almost all Viltrumites.
If you feel I should die, then act. I would not blame you.
~ Thaedus speaking to Nolan's rage upon the latter seeing a new strain of the Scourge Virus.
I killed Emperor Argall because I thought, without his cruel leadership our people would change. When it only made our hate stronger, then I had no choice but to act again. And I have thought many times about taking my own life for what I have done. But not until the Viltrum Empire is extinguished and we are all but a mercifully forgotten memory.
~ Thaedus explaining to Nolan why he killed Argall and created the Scourge virus.
It is time for war. We, the Coalition of Planets, have never been more unified, more determined, more ready. And Viltrum has never been weaker. Fifty Viltrumites hide behind their conquered armies, while millions of us rise together against them. We will end their cruelty. We will end their atrocities. We will end their tyranny. They believe that their strength is insurmountable. But they are wrong. Together, we have discovered their weaknesses. And we will use them to break their hold on the galaxy. Decades of planning, of strategy... of patience and unity and hope... have led us to this moment. There will be loss, and there will be sacrifice. But it will be less than the suffering Viltrum brings upon us every single moment they exist. Remember always, if we remain unified against their empire of pain... we will prevail. Let the war begin.
~ Thaedus to the Coalition leaders as he officially declares war on the Viltrum Empire
Thaedus: It was the only way to show them the truth.
Nolan Grayson: I know.
~ Thaedus and Nolan after the destruction of Viltrum.
Viltrumites! Your world is destroyed. Surrender...is your only option!
~ Thaedus' final words.
Allen. I am dead, and if you're not, you have taken my position as head of the Coalition of Planets. It is well-earned, and I know you will live up to the responsibility I have cursed you with. I believe with every fiber of my being that the universe will never be safe until all Viltrumite life is ended. I can only assume, since I am gone, we have not achieved that goal. I have hidden a terrible weapon of last resort. A perfected version of what almost extinguished their empire so long ago. It is inexorable death for any and all Viltrumites. I only hesitated to use it because it may also strike down those with similar genetics. Mark's people, for instance. Nolan knows of the weapon's existence, but he does not and cannot know this. Allen, for the good of all living beings, use the Scourge virus to finish what I started and let nothing stop you. No matter the cost, every last Viltrumite must die.
~ Thaedus' post-mortem recording to Allen, ordering him to use the improved Scourge virus to eliminate all Viltrumites.
