Commander Eagle is the overarching protagonist of the cartoon series Saber Rider and the Star Sheriffs. He is the leader of the Calvary Command, April Eagle's father, and the Star Sheriffs' founder and benefactor.
He was voiced by Peter Cullen.
Appearance
Commander Eagle is a tall, middle-aged man with dark brown hair, beard and mustache, and a rather strong frame. He wears the uniform of the Calvary Command's officials.
Personality
Commander Eagle is wise and always seeks to defend the human dimension from outside forces. He's also a genius who can create giant robots and inventions in general. It's him who personally chooses Saber Rider to be the Star Sheriffs' leader, and acts as their mentor throughout the war. Most notably, he is a good father to April, contacting her to wish her best lucks many times whenever she is away with the team. Being a well-respected official, he's always fair to his people and never mistreats them.
Eagle is also a pacifist, willingly welcoming the Outriders should they chose to stop the invasion. However, he isn't naive despite this, as at the end of the series, when the Outriders trick the New Frontier into signing a peace accord and allowing them to settle on Mars alongside the human colonists who are already there, Eagle has prepared a second Ramrod just in case they go back on the deal, which they do.
Role
Commander Eagle is the leader of the Calvary Command. At some point in his life, he fathered April, who would eventually become his assisstant and engineer.
Later, the Outriders lauch a second invasion, thanks to their leader Nemesis creating the Vapor Trail that allows them to cross over the human dimension. They attack the Settlers, destroy settlements, and kidnap humans to mine minerals from various planets. As a result, Eagle decides to develop a transformable starship known as the Ramrod Equalizer Unit, with April as the one who designs it and is in charge of its project.
As specialists are required to pilot it, Eagle chooses Saber Rider, Fireball, April and Colt Willcox, forming the Star Sheriffs. From then on, he provides multiple helps for them from behind the scenes.
