Hero Overview

I fought bullies long before I became the Master of Quake. There's more to us than Elemental Powers.
~ Frak to Lloyd in Elements of Betrayal

Frak Slitherbottom is one of the two tritagonists (alongside Wyldfyre) of Ninjago: Dragons Rising.

He is a Serpentine, as well as the Master of Quake and Arin's childhood best friend. He competed in the Tournament of the Sources with other Elemental Masters of his generation. After this, he joined the Ninja and went to the Monastery.

Biography

Background

Frak resided in the same neighborhood where Arin also lived. Frak developed a strong admiration for the ninja, particularly Cole. One day, Frak met Arin after scaring off two bullies (By hissing aggressively at them), who were teasing the latter about the ninja before they eventually became friends. At some point, Frak taught Arin how to bake pies. Unfortunately, Frak had to move away, causing him to lose contact with Arin.

Following the Merge, Frak gained the Elemental Power of Quake, which he accidentally triggered and led to bursting a sewer pipe and creating chaos. Frightened and unsure of how to control his powers, Frak met an anthropomorphic black-tiger named Ras, who guided him in mastering his powers. With Ras' help, Frak gradually overcame his fears regarding his powers. Eventually, Ras invited Frak to join the Wolf Clan and participate in the Tournament of the Sources.

Ninjago: Dragons Rising

Season 2

Frak would later go to the welcome banquet for the Elemental Masters in the tournament, but an argument broke out between the ninja, Ras, the new games master Roby, and Zeatrix showed up for being uninvited for the banquet as a result of being exiled from Imperium, forcing things to become cancelled rather quickly.

Frak was practicing with a wooden dummy when he met Arin, who cautioned him about Ras' ambitions, which included hunting dragons and taking over the Cloud Kingdom. Frak remained skeptical, as he had only experienced kindness from Ras. He disclosed that his rigorous training was aimed at mastering Shatterspin. However, Arin advised against this pursuit, cautioning that donning a Wolf Mask could lead to the user's moral corruption, asserting that Ras was solely driven by a thirst for power. Frak was conflicted, as he attributed his progress to Ras' guidance. He demonstrated Ras' teachings, prompting Arin to showcase his own unconventional Spinjitzu. As Frak shared Ras's insights, Arin successfully performed a genuine Spinjitzu tornado, leaving both Frak and Arin in awe. Just then, Frak received a message from Ras, indicating that it was now his turn to participate in the next match.

Upon arriving at the Games Plaza alongside Arin, Frak found himself matched against Cole, viewing this challenge as a prestigious opportunity. In order to secure victory in the match, Frak was required to ring the bell positioned at the top of the arena, a task that involved navigating and climbing the swinging metal walls. Fortunately for Frak, his Quake powers provided him with a significant advantage, as they caused the arena to shift, aiding his ascent. Ultimately, Frak triumphed over Cole and successfully rang the bell, thereby winning the contest. Following his win, Frak was awarded the Elemental Power of Earth by Roby through the Elemental Cup, a moment that filled him with delight as he eagerly began to try with his abilities.

Frak watched in surprise when Wyldfyre arrived with Zur to expose Bleckt after Nokt defeated Sora.

Frak fights alongside several other Elemental Masters against Cinder and the Wolf Mask Warriors in hand-to-hand combat. He was also the one to encourage the ninja to go and fight Nokt and Rox-possessed-Jordana from freeing the rest of the Forbidden Five while the others stayed behind to continue fighting. After regaining his powers and the conclusion of the tournament, Frak was allowed by the other ninja at the Monastery of Spinjitzu, petting Riyu before meeting Alfonzo Frohicky.

Season 3

After Zane managed to find a clue that could lead them to Arin, Frak joined Lloyd, Sora, Zane and Zanth in their search for his best friend. During it, they discovered the Forbidden Five's objective to find all five Prismatic Blade to free Thunderfang, a god-seeking chaos dragon. The mission to stop them leads him to reunite with Arin, who temporarily joins them to stop the Forbidden Five and Thunderfang, but also to save Ras. After Thunderfang is defeated, Frak is left sad when both Arin and Sora decide to leave the team to go with Ras, due to the latter's claims of being able to bring back Arin's parents. When returning to the monastery, Frak and the other Ninja learn from a still-amnesiac Jay that Arin's parents are still alive.

While training under Cole and Kai, with Lloyd leading a team to search for Arin's parents, Frak ends up feeling the earth screaming the same way Cole sensed before. The three ninja follow the same clue Cole once followed at Master Wu's request and, together, they unearth the skeletal remains of the Source Dragon of Balance, the Source Dragon killed before the Merge. When returning to the Land of Lost Things, they found it being attacked by Nokt and spectral Dragonian Warriors, who removed the souls of Fritz, Spitz, and Bonzle. While trying to save them and the inhabitants of Imperium, Frak and Kai had their Prismatic Blades upgraded to be more effective and, despite managing to fend them off and release some of the stolen souls, they lost Cole, who got hollowed. Frak and Kai then reunited with the others to help against Thunderfang whose spirit attained another way to become the source dragon he always dreamt of being, with the former going with Sora, Riyu, Wyldfyre, and Zanth to Djinjago to awaken the tan half of the Arc Dragon of Focus, the only mortal dragon powerful enough to stop him.

Appearance

Frak is a young hybrid Serpentine of an unknown clan with legs who has skin composed of oranges scales and a lime crest at the back of his head. He has the same head shape as the snake warriors and the eel Merlopians but with a shorter neck. He is a short-necked Serpentine with legs, a characteristic that sets him apart. Initially, he wore classic clothes but later adopted a dark grey Wolf Clan outfit for the Tournament of the Sources before becoming a ninja and wearing a black and lime green dojo gi, then a grey and lime ninja suit.

Personality

Frak is a brave, friendly, compassionate, caring, and a good-natured person who strongly believes in doing what is right. Even as a kid, he helped protect Arin when he was being bullied by two mean older kids, which shows his kind nature. He is also a bit naive, because some point after the Merge, he was manipulated by Lord Ras and recruited to the Wolf Clan so he could attend the Tournament of the Sources. However, he refused to wear the Wolf Mask during the Tournament of the Sources because it went against his beliefs and because of the ninja's reveal that the Wolf Mask shatters all the goodness in its user. This shows that he values his morals more than following orders. Even when facing challenges, Frak stays strong and determined. He is also very loyal to his friends, always standing by them no matter what.

Very much like Arin, Frak is a great admirer of the Ninja, especially Cole. Despite siding with Ras' team, Frak never once showed hostility against his heroes, as for example when he found it a great honor when he had to fight against Cole and even seeking his advice about using the latter's element, even if that would cause problems with Ras. After joining the Ninja and becoming Lloyd's third student, Frak at first had some difficulty in separating himself from Ras' teachings, but his dedication allowed him to adopt the Ninja's battling style of relying on other sources of strength, besides the physical one. However, due to being previously one of Ras' students, Frak would try to prove himself worthy, with that sometimes leading to some unfortunate results.

Despite being affable and easygoing, Frak is often bad at social cues and often fumbles at small talk as Sora would point out. However, he is also extremely passionate for the art of pie-baking; having accumulated binders of entire recipes and gets excited at passing along his knowledge to Sora.

During Season 3 and onwards, Frak has developed a crush on Sora, seen when Zane expressed how he missed P.I.X.A.L., describing her as the smartest and most attractive member of the team, which caused Frak to think he was talking about Sora. More of that crush is showed when Frak is reunited with Sora, as he expressed how he was so worried about her that he couldn't even sleep, with him then awkwardly adding that the others also may have not been able to sleep as well. During their journey to Djinjago, when Sora tried to rehearse the notes they would need to play to awaken one of the halves of the Arc Dragon of Focus, Frak tried to harmonize with her, with the first attempt failing before he managed to do it properly. During their fight against Kur and the spectral Dragonian Warriors at the Cave of Bells, fearing he would not have another chance, Frak tried to express his feelings towards Sora, however, at the last moment, he chickened out and came out with an feeble excuse.
