| ~ Yu Narukami/Souji Seta's narration about his life-changing stay at Inaba that saw the foundation of Investigation Team in manga adaptation of Persona 4. |
The Investigation Team are the heroic faction that serves as the main protagonists in the Persona 4 sub-series within the Persona series.
They are a group dedicated to investigating the phenomena of the Midnight Channel and stopping the murder cases in Yasoinaba. The members have little faith in the conventional law enforcement system because they feel the police are inept, and are convinced that revealing Midnight Channel to the police could exacerbate things and render IT members unable to catch the murderer.
The Investigation Team also represents the Fool Arcana Social Link. In addition, much like how SEES eventually becomes the Nyx Annihilation Team, the Investigation Team eventually becomes known as The Seekers of Truth if the player chooses to continue searching for the real culprit, at which point it changes to represent the Judgement Arcana Social Link.
Biography
Investigation Team was established shortly after Yu, Yosuke, and Chie's discovery of TV World and subsequently, Teddie's growing suspicion where recent deaths — Mayumi Yamano and Saki Konishi — were perpetrated by someone who threw them there and let them be killed by their own Shadow Self. Starting with Yukiko Amagi, they managed to save subsequent victims who then joined them in the effort to stop murder attempts.
Thanks to Naoto Shirogane, the group made an actual progress after being led astray by Mitsuo Kubo, an unassuming yet unpleasant nobody who deluded himself to be the killer that terrorized Inaba. However, the culpit, who spied on the group, sent threatening messages to Yu twice, the second attempt led to to young man in trouble with his uncle Ryotaro Dojima, who also happened to be the police detective who conducted his investigation in the same case. However, this coincided with the supposed killer revealed himself to be Taro Namatame and worse, he had kidnapped Nanako, Yu's younger cousin. Both Namatame and Nanako were subsequently evacuated from TV World, though hazards there and strange fog covering the twon following the rescue attempt saw the latter ended up nearing the death door. Had the group not let their grief get best of them, they wouldn't be able to learn the truth straight from Namatame himself.
After questioning Namatame and reviewing what they learned so far, Yu finally realized that the true culprit was not just manipulating the former like a marionette, but also the last person they expected; Tohru Adachi.
