Splashdown is a minor character in Generation One of the Transformers franchise. He was based on a figure from the 1988 toyline.
Biography
Splashdown's only appearance in the Marvel US comic was in Issue #40. He was part of the Steelhaven crew newly arrived on Earth from Nebulos. When the Nebulan Autobots learned that Scorponok had fitted six of his Decepticons with Pretender shells that caused them to resemble giant monsters, they had Splashdown and five others undergo a similar process that provided them with shells that resembled giant humans. With the Autobots having recently recovered a computer disc containing the personality of the long believed dead Autobot leader Optimus Prime, an opportunity was taken to trick the Decepticon Pretenders into attacking the Altered Reality facility, which Splashdown and the others were stationed to defend, with Optimus Prime directing their actions. The plan succeeded and the Decepticons were driven off.
Splashdown's only subsequent appearance was in the Marvel UK annual story "The Chain Gang". Here, he, Cloudburst and Landmine were sent to an oil rig that was under attack from Decepticon Pretenders Skullgrin, Bomb-Burst and Iguanus. During a subsequent battle between the two sides, a human plane was damaged and Cloudburst convinced Bomb-Burst to help him stop it crashing into the rig and killing them. While they were occupied, Splashdown and Landmine managed to defeat Skullgrin and Iguanus, forcing Bomb-Burst to surrender as well.
Splashdown may have been among the casualties of the subsequent battle with the Earth Decepticons on the moon.
