Tutorial Terry is the deuteragonist of the 2024 Roblox RPG game Block Tales.
He is a pessimistic penguin that appears in every chapter, where he encounters the player and teaches them the fundamentals of the game's mechanics and moves. He is also the older brother of Jerry, and is revealed in Chapter 2 that he was formerly a professional pilot.
Appearance
Terry is a small dark blue penguin with an egg-shaped appearance. He has an orange beak and flippers, alongside his massive black eyebrows, and white underbelly. After Chef Wizard is killed, Terry steals his hat temporarily. His modern appearance as the Elder Penguin gives Terry more bushier eyebrows that cover his eyes and a walking cane.
Personality
As indicated by his massive eyebrows, Terry is pessimistic and sarcastic character, who sometimes acts out of rage, before cooling down to realize the situation. He has no sense for patience, and will angerly insult anything that annoys him, or at the very least make a snarky remark on something that is obvious. However, he does have a softer side, as he is willing to coach the player to learn the fundamentals of the game, and is a good older brother to Jerry, even if they foil personalities.
Biography
In the pre-prologue, Tutorial Terry is seen attending the Roblox Convention and sleeping partway through it. That is until a Mysterious Figure interrupts midway through that his grandchildren, Harry and Mary alert him. Awakening from his slumber, Terry immediately recognizes the figure as well as the player and tells them to battle the Mysterious Figure's henchmen. Despite the player being confused of what is happening, Terry brushes it off and guides them on how to battle their opponents. After the henchmen are defeated, Terry then shouts at the player to aim for the Mysterious Figure's time machine as they are about to activate it. The player does so but ends up getting caught in it and sent back to 2010.
After awakening, the player will find that they have woken up in a younger Terry's bed. Terry then greets them and the player is given the option of either answering "Yes", "No", or "YOU GOTTA DIE". The latter option pits an impossible fight against Terry, who then uses the Penguin Missile to down the player, making them lose. If selected either of the former two options, Terry berates them for sleeping in his bed, and refuses the believe the player presumably mentioning a kidnapping of Builderman and time-traveling back to the 2010s, the era the game is set in. He then informs that the player should talk the hotel staff as they were looking for them earlier. to the During the prologue, Terry will teach the player about the game's basics with their cards, after complaining about them trashing his room.
In Chapter 1, the player finds Terry again attempting to retrieve a card in a cave that they are in. He then teaches the player how they can use their ball to retrieve items as well and the player obtains the HP+ card, which Terry lets them keep. Terry then appears in the Snowy Thicket where he finds the player who had obtained Dynamite, thus teaching them how to swap actions and tells them to test it out, not before he comments about a stuck Accountant Jim being stupid. Later in the castle, he sabotages the Kitchen Wizard's recipe, kills him via Penguin Missile, and robs him of his hat. Appear when the player obtains the Shrinking card, he gains the ability to teleport and levitate with the hat, telling the player that he wanted to take some vengeance on the Chef Wizard for being a punk, before telling the player to swap their equip with that ability so that they can shrink through hard to reach areas. After defeating the Cruel King, Terry teleports on his throne, confusing the player for being at Blox Mart with him. Once he realizes where he is at, he informs that the player should get back to Roblox HQ as he received a call from Shedledsky, and also teaches the player how to use Fast Travel/Map in the menu to quickly teleport to the HQ Basement.
In Chapter 2, Terry appears at the airport, encountering the player who tells him that they need to travel to Plainstown for the Venomshank. Terry then reveals that he used to be a professional pilot, and gladly flies the player over. Once they arrive, Terry expects the player to pay him a fee for the ride, before realizing they didn't intend on doing that. This enrages Terry as the player then walks away by his mention. Terry appears alongside his brother Jerry then the player obtains the Rocket Boots from the Komodo Dragon, with the latter immediately recognizing the gadget the player obtained. The two then tell what the rocket boots do, and how they function to glide over pits, before leaving the player.
In Chapter 3, Terry and Jerry were kicked out of the Bizville Hotel and fined for the player's mess there and later took up residence at Telamon's Manor. When they coincidentally come across the player again there, Terry scolds the player for getting them fined, and warns them not to mess up their bedroom in the manor, and also reveals that he is taking Jerry under his wing now for protection. If the player enters the haunted version of the manor, Terry initially warns off the player again over the them entering the alternate dimension, before they ask him where the Ghostwalker is and how they can obtain it. He agrees to assist them in their search. Later down in the basement, Terry meets up with the player and informs them that he isn't supposed to touch the Ghostwalker and that the Ghost Chef is supposed to retrieve it for them. When he looks at the player's inventory, he finds that they have a Ghost Potion to bypass obstacles and teaches them how to use it. At the end of the passage, Terry finds some yellow planks on the ground and commands the player to use their newly obtained Hyperball to ground pound it open, entering the room hosting the Ghostwalker. Terry goes back up to retrieve the Chef and tells the player not to do anything until he and Jerry come back. The player ignores him and touches the Ghostwalker, nearly getting themselves killed had it not been for them purifying their soul. Terry finds them back after getting the Ghost Chef and he scolds them for heeding his advice, before being pointed out by Jerry and the Ghost Chef that they had successfully purified their soul. Terry then leaves with Jerry to go back to Roblox HQ and meet up with Shedledsky.
In Chapter 4, Terry is seen on vacation in the Ancient Tombs where he lazily floats across the pool of water with Jerry as he rambles on about not having to worry about responsibilities. When he turns around, he coincidentally crosses paths with the player again, much to his dismay. When the player askes them what the bottled ship they recently obtained, Terry becomes surprised even after the player mentions the Great Flocci to them, and then he lectures the player about how to use the bottle ship. He then chases after Jerry when the latter is pulled by the water's currents. Terry and Jerry appear again after the player has obtained the Shovel, revealing that he was attempting to chase down the Great Flocci for wishes. After some chatting, the player askes for advice on how to use the shovel, and Terry simply informs them to use it digging through sand pits before he and Jerry leave. He later appears with his Wizard Hat at the end of the chapter to congratulate the player on surviving the entire time and orders them to collect the Firebrand. Though the player after they explain what happened during the climax, they then request Terry to teleport Calypso back to safety before they pick up the sword.
In Chapter 5, he is seen outside Opticus' tower where he investigate a canvas. The player appears behind him and they can either ask how to use their recently obtain Paintball Gun or where Jerry it. Asking about the latter reveals that Terry ordered his brother to look after Calypso back at the Pirate Camp before he teleports away.
Powers & Abilities
- Penguin Missile: In his fight, Terry pulls out his rocket launcher and takes aim at the player, instantly downing them and causing a huge explosion. This attack cannot be dodged and guarantees the player's loss against him. According to the Ghost Chef in Chapter 3, Terry used this same attack against him back in Chapter 1.
Trivia
- Even if the player manages to deplete Terry of all of his health in his fight through any glitches/cheats, he will not be defeated as the fight is presumably coded to prevent Terry from losing to the player.
