| “ | The Galactic Patrol agents may be the elites of their own home worlds, but on the universal scale, they're helpless. Many of the criminals willing to violate Galactic law are stronger than those agents. Even so, the agents act in accordance with their convictions and ideals. Valiantly, they struggle to protect the galaxy. Seeing those agents in action, I came to realize that peace in the galaxy is worth hanging on to. | „ |

Merus, now known as Merus Ikanoichiyabosshi, is a major supporting character in the 2015 manga series Dragon Ball Super, introduced in the Galactic Patrol Prisoner Saga.
Born an angel-in training, Merus was sent to Universe 7 by the Grand Priest to help broaden his perspective on mortals. Merus would later become a member of the Galactic Patrol and cross paths with Goku and Vegeta and ask for their assistance in defeating Moro, an escaped Galactic Patrol prisoner.
Personality
Despite being born an angel who is meant to be completely neutral in the face of good and evil, Merus' mindset shifted away from this after seeing the acts of good from the Galactic Patrol, causing him to change his perspective in order to side with good. Merus' sense of justice was further strengthened when he saw the Galactic Patrol struggle in apprehending individuals much stronger than the organization as a whole, as well as Goku's mindset of wanting to change his enemies for the better. During his final battle with Moro, Merus' resolve was so strong, he was willing to break Angel laws and use his Angel powers to weaken Moro and assist Goku, knowing it would result in his imminent erasure from existence.
When on patrol, Merus is serious and level-headed, determined to fulfill his missions to completion without fail. Due to his status as an elite Galactic Patrolman, Merus and his abilities are held in high regard amongst his fellow Patrolmen, though Merus himself doesn't brag about his power and was willing to admit that Moro was much stronger than him.
Merus thinks very highly of Goku, likening his approach to fighting villains to the reformation that the Galactic Patrol does. While training with Goku, Merus felt confident enough to show Goku his true power, although this nearly resulted in him being erased for violating Angel law.

Trivia
- Merus' name seems to be a double pun:
- It can based off of surume, a Japanese dried squid snack. This would follow the trend of Galactic Patrolmen being named after seafood.
- It can also be based off the Latin word "merus", which refers to undiluted wine. This would follow the trend of Angels being named after alcohol.
