Puar is a shapeshifting animal that is Yamcha's life long best friend. Puar's name is a pun on Pu-erh tea.
He is voiced by Naoko Watanabe in the Japanese version of the anime, and by Cheryl Chase, Jodi Forrest, Kathy Morse, Brina Palencia, Dave Bridges, Chris Simms, Monika Antonelli, and Cathy Weseluck in the various English versions.
Personality
Puar has an unwaveringly loyalty to Yamcha and carries his orders without question. He also cares a lot for Yamcha's well being, which became evident after the latter dies during the battle with the Saiyans early in Z.
Powers and Abilities
Puar is a skilled shape-shifter, as displayed throughout the series. Although not a skilled fighter like his best friend Yamcha, Puar (as a young woman) was shown sending Master Roshi flying into a window, due to fighting off the latter's perverted antics during the Universal Survival Arc.
Puar also has the ability to levitate, as he is always airborne while moving around, in the anime's version of the Battle of Gods Saga, Puar was seen flying alongside Yamcha to Bulma's birthday party.
Biography
Dragon Ball
Puar was originally a student in the Southern Transformation Kindergarten, there he learned his shapeshipt ability, he also met there Oolong starting his rivality with him, Puar met Yamcha in the Diablo Desert and became his partner in his bandit activity.
The two stole belongings to people that cross the diablo desert until time they met Goku, Bulma and his former rival Oolong and both confronts them. When he and Yamcha learned about the Dragon Balls, Puar helps Yamcha when he tries to get them from the Dragon Team. Later, he joins the Dragon Team to confront the Pilaf Gang and became a member of them.

- Puar's gender varies in some dubs, as the character is voice by female voice actors and is referred to as female in some Saban's edited English version of Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z, as well as FUNimations Entertainment's Dragon Ball website.
