Bulma (also known as Bulma Brief in the Funimation dub) is one of the two tritagonists (alongside Piccolo) of the Dragon Ball franchise.
She is a genius and gifted scientist who is the best friend of Son Goku, as well as the first human (aside from Grandpa Gohan) that Goku ever met in his childhood life. Her personality often acts as a foil to his.
Originally, she wanted to find and use the Dragon Balls to get the perfect boyfriend, though she didn't need the wish when she found Yamcha and became his girlfriend, but after the Saiyans invasion they broke up and she switched her love to Vegeta, whom she later marries Vegeta, and together they have two children, a son named Trunks and a daughter named Bulla. She is also shown to be good friends with Launch, Chi-Chi, Videl, and Android 18.

In Japanese, she was voiced by the late Hiromi Tsuru until Dragon Ball: FighterZ and was succeeded by Aya Hisakawa following Dragon Ball Super.
In English, she was voiced by Wendee Lee in DBS in Harmony Gold dub, Lalainia Lindbjerg in DB, Maggie Blue O'Hara in DBZ Seasons 4-8 and France Perras in DBZ Seasons 8-9 in the Ocean Group dubs, Leslie Alexander in DB movie, Tiffany Vollmer in DBZ and Monica Rial in DBZ Kai in the Funimation dub, Leda Davies in DB and Kristin Nowosad in DBGT in Blue Water dub, Sharon Mann in AB Groupe dub and Mitch Frankenberger Pellicer in Creative Products Corporation dub.

Personality
Bulma has a temperamental personality, while being very tomboyish and girly at the same time. While known for her extreme intellect, Bulma is considerably spoiled and vain, using her great beauty as an excuse for her selfish behavior. Her selfishness prevented her from being able to ride the Flying Nimbus. While in stressful conditions, she becomes frightened easily and can get easily angered towards anyone, including her allies. Bulma tends to have a great deal of concern over her hygiene, frequently complaining when circumstances prevent her from taking a bubble bath or replenishing her beauty supplies, even when her hygiene is the least of her worries, such as being stranded in the wilderness. That said, she is also capable of acting very mature and levelheaded in certain situations, and can even act as a voice of reason at times to the heroes who are more intent on solving problems through violence and wanting opportunities to test their strength, such as when she suggested using the Dragon Balls to stop the Androids that Future Trunks warned them about before they got dangerous enough to fight back. In general, while Bulma is self-centered, vain, spoiled and bad-tempered, and never completely got over these traits as she grew up, she has shown repeatedly to be an essentially good person who's heart is generally in the right place, and is unquestionably loyal to her friends.

Friends and allies
Bulma and Goku.
- Goku: She became one of Goku's first friends and they first met when Goku was a kid. At first she expressed frustration and annoyance towards his lack of hygiene, manners, and limited knowledge of the outside world and sought to only use him as protection whenever they encountered serious trouble when looking for the Dragon Balls. But soon enough, Bulma warmed up and cared for Goku as a dear friend, their relationship being similar to that of an older sister and younger brother.
- Krillin: Krillin is one of Bulma's first friends.
- Master Roshi: Roshi is one of Bulma's friends. But she dislikes his perversion towards her and the other beautiful women (including Launch, Chi-Chi, Android 18 and Videl), often slapping or punching him as well always calling him as a dirty old man.
- Tenshinhan: Originally enemy while with Crane, but now Bulma became close friends with Tien.
- Launch: Bulma and Launch became the closest friends though Bulma is aware of Launch has a split personality.
- Chi-Chi: Bulma and Chi-Chi became close friends.
- Gohan: Gohan is one of Bulma's friends. She acts like a big sister to him whenever Goku is not around.
- Videl: Bulma and Videl are good friends.
Love interests
- Yamcha: She and Yamcha used to date until a misunderstanding when it seem like Yamcha was making out with Hasky when he really didn't, she broke up with him anyway.
- Vegeta: He is Bulma's husband and they married sometime after Future Trunks went back to the future. Together they had two kids. She created new Saiyan armors for Vegeta.
Children
- Trunks: After starting a relationship with Vegeta, Bulma gives birth to Trunks. 7 years later, Her son trains with Vegeta. While going on a Dragon Balls investigation, Bulma gives her Dragon Radar to Trunks.
- Future Trunks: This Trunks is Bulma's son from the alternative future.
- Bulla: In Dragon Ball Super, Bulma gives birth to Bulla. Her daughter resembles her.

Trivia
- Bulma was originally a parody of a character from Journey to the West (like Goku was too). She was adapted from Xuanzang (also called Tripitaka), the monk and the main protagonist of the novel. Like in the original novel, she leads the band of five consisting of herself, Goku, Oolong, Yamcha and Puar (each an adaptation of a Journey to the West character) in search of the Dragon Balls. Despite Xuanzang being a male, Bulma being a female follows a tradition in Chinese opera where the role is performed by a female actor.
