Toppo is the leader of the Pride Troopers who participates in the Tournament of Power. He is the second strongest fighter of Universe 11 and is currently training under Belmod to become the next God Of Destruction. He has a huge resentment towards Goku, as he blames him for suggesting the Tournament of Power in the first place. Toppo is the secondary antagonist of the Universe Survival Saga in Dragon Ball Super.
He is voiced by Kenji Nomura in the Japanese version, and by Ray Hurd in the FUNimation dub.
Appearance
Toppo is a burly humanoid alien with tan colored skin, yellow eyes with dark lines under them and a large white mustache that covers his mouth. His hands are considerably big compared to the rest of his body and his legs considerably small. He sports a red and black spandex suit which appears to be part of his team's attire.
Personality
Toppo had viewed himself as a keeper of justice. As leader of The Pride Troopers, Toppo is the most adamant about maintaining their heroic ideals. Toppo is willing to permit many things in the name of preserving the lives of the people in his universe, including things such as dirty tricks, but such acts still utterly disgust him. Toppo's rage for the potential loss of life of his people is what brought on his access to The Power of Destruction - a level of power profound to the point of making him a candidate for a God of Destruction.
History
Universe Survival Arc
When Kai's attendance was required at the Zen Exhibition Match, the Kaiōshin brought Toppo as his bodyguard to the event, where the two alongside Vermoud and Marcarita watch the 7th and 9th Universe contestants fight each other. During Majin Boo and Basil's fight, he protects the others and himself from one of Basil's attacks, and comments that it's a disrespect to the gods. From observing Gokū actions, Toppo decides to speak to the Saiyan, and excuses himself as he confronts him in the ring.
Upon meeting Gokū, Toppo challenges him, and declares he will defeat him if he bears evil intent. After Zen'ō approves the match, Toppo begins fighting and overwhelming Gokū until he uses Super Saiyan Blue. When Gokū damages Toppo's uniform with his Kamehameha, Toppo takes it as an insult to his pride, to which he prepares to show the Saiyan true justice. As he powers up, the Grand Priest stops the match in the case Toppo or Gokū die and ruin the upcoming Tournament of Power.
Gokū approaches Toppo to thank him for a good fight and compliments his strength however, Toppo shrugs off Gokū's thanks by stating that there is a friend of his that would be even stronger than him: Jiren.
Trivia
- Toppo's name appears to come from the word "pot", which is further emphasized in the FUNimation dub.
- In the manga, Toppo didn't show any resentment towards Goku.
- It wasn't until later that the Destroyer state Top used was identified as Ultra Ego. Unlike Vegeta, Top had the training to keep his ego under control; which is why he is so cold and calm when using it.
- His English voice actor, Ray Hurd, also voiced Leonhart in Sacrificial Princess and the King of Beasts.
