Alear, also known as the Divine Dragon, the Dragon Child and the Fire Emblem, is one of the main characters of Nintendo's Fire Emblem franchise. They are the titular main protagonist of the 2023 tactical role-playing video game Fire Emblem Engage.

Alear is the adopted child of Lumera, the queen of dragons and ruler of the holy land of Lythos. They are a veteran of the war with their birth father, malevolent King Sombron who tried to gather powerful artifacts called the Emblem Rings in an attempt to access to multiverse so he could retrieve his homeworld and seek revenge upon those who wronged him, while causing countless deaths on his path.

Alear defeated him during the war, but were heavily wounded in the process. Nursed back to health and turned into a half divine dragon-half fell dragon hybrid by their adopted mother, Alear was tasked to find the Emblem Rings and stop Sombron after the latter's return and Lumera's death.

Male Alear is voiced by Hiro Shimono in the Japanese version and by Brandon McInnis in the English version, while female Alear is voiced by Aya Endō in the Japanese version and by Laura Stahl in the English version, who also voiced Toadette in Super Mario series.

Background

Alear was a child of the Fell Dragon Sombron who was tasked with the mission of gathering Emblem Rings for their father during the war between Divine and Fell Dragons, so he could use their powers to make his wish come true. Almost all of Alear's siblings died during the war, either during the battles against the Divine Dragons and their allies or by Sombron and his goons as a punishment for failing the evil god. As a result, Alear adopted an emotionless persona and decided to hide their emotions so Sombron would not kill them. During the war, they were saved after a defeat and befriended by Lumera, the only surviving member of the Divine Dragon clan who showed them kindness for the first time in their life and slowly convinced them to turn on Sombron.

They were adopted by Lumera and helped against their biological father's forces, culminating in Alear defeating Sombron on their own during the war's final battle. Alas, Sombron used what was left of his strength to give a lethatl wound to Alear before losing conciousness and getting sealed by Lumera. During the following millenia, Lumera transfered her powers to Alear as they were put in stasis in order to become a divine dragon-fell dragon hybrid and heal from their injuries. They lost most of their memories in the process.

Biography

Alear wakes up 1000 years after the war and is greated by their stewards Clanne, Framme and Vander, who explain them who they are and what is their mission. They quickly reunite with Lumera after fighting the Corrupted - zombies working for Sombron - and go to Lythos castle with their mother and their servants. They train with their mother in order to control the powers of the emblems and are granted with Lumera's own sword, "Libération" after the sparring session. During the following night they have a flashback of their past and wake up believing that it was a nightmare. They soon realise that their castle is attacked by the army of Elusia, a kingdom worshipping Sombron. They stop one of the elusian army generals, Abyme, but are quickly overpowered by the Fell Princess, Sombron's daughter top servant. Lumera sacrifices herself to protect her child, entrust them with her ring and the mission to gather the ten remaining emblems (Alear already has an emblem on their own: Marth) by working with the rulers of the nearby counrties. Alear thus start a journey to gather the rings and take back the rings stolen by the Fell Princess.

The Divine Dragon decides to help Alfred and Celine, the prince and princess of the nearby kingdom , Firene, which is attacked by Elusia. Alfred is actually an ally who came to Alears rescue during the attack of Lythos caslte by the elusian army. Celine, on the other end is saved by Alear froman elusian general later on, alongside Emblem Celica and her retainers. Afterward, Alear, Alfred and Celine save the latter two's mother Queen Eve from Zephia, Sombron and the princess' second in command and learn from Queen Eve that her country has another emblem : Emblem Micaiah. After saving the latter and her new partner, a mysterious thief called Yunaka, Alear and Co go to Brodia, the kingdom next to Firene.

After crossing the border between Firene and Brodia, Alear and Alfred are attacked by Alcryst, Brodia's second prince who mistook them for thieves, after clearing the misunderstanding, they work together to stop a princess of Elusia, Hortensia and learn from her that her elder sister, the crown princess is about to launch an attack on Brodia palace. After encountering Alcryst's father Morion and brother Diamant, Alear, Alfred and Alcryst end up face to face with Elusia's crown princess : Ivy. Following her defeat, her father Hyacinth lures King Morion into facing on the battlefield and captures him while Ivy holds back Alear. Hyacinth proceeds to sacrifice Morion to Sombron, so his god could retrieve his powers. Unfortunately, Sombron eats Hyacinth too and both him Morion are turned into corrupted. In the meantime, the Fell Princess, who turns out to be Veyle - a girl who helped Alear earlier, steals the six rings which Alear found and hunts them and their allies down. They manage to escape with the help of Ivy, who join them in the process, alongside her retainers.

Physical Appearance

Alear had red hair at first, but half of their hair turned blue after Lumera turned them into an hybrid. The divine Dragon has a blue eye (referencing their divine dragon heritage) and a red eye (referencing their fell dragon heritage). Alear wears a white outfit with blue and golden accents wich is slightly different depending on their gender: male Alear wears a blue coat and white pants, while female Alear wears a blue skirt and black shorts. Both versions of the character wear a white and red cape and a pair of black boots. Male Alear has neck length hair with the left side being blue and the right side being red while female Alear has back length hair with the left being red and the right being blue.
