| ~ Sothis, possessing Byleth, attempting to kill Shez. |
Sothis, also known as the Progenitor God or the Beginning, is the overarching protagonist of the Fódlan timeline saga within Nintendo's Fire Emblem franchise.
She is the overarching protagonist of both the 2019 tactical video game Fire Emblem: Three Houses and the 2022 spin-off sequel Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes and will return in some capacity in the upcoming 2026 video game Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave.
She is a mysterious and amnesiac girl that only Byleth Eisner can see, possessing supernatural abilities, such as the ability to freeze and reverse time and even possess a major crest, known as the Crest of Flames. Sothis is later revealed to be the Goddess of Fódlan and is the mother of Saint Seiros, better known as Rhea. Near the end of the Academy Phase, she fuses with Byleth to defeat their enemies.
She is voiced by Tomoyo Kurosawa in the Japanese version and by Cassandra Lee Morris in the English version, the latter of whom also voices Julia from the Jugdral Duology, Morgana in Persona 5, Rachel in Glitter Force Doki Doki, Suguha Kiriygaya/Leafa in Sword Art Online, and Galacta from Marvel Rivals.
Appearance
As a child, Sothis is a young-looking, very short girl with lovely, long, green eyes and hair, as well as a lean and slim build. She wears a purple dress with gold details, along with red earrings and is shown to be barefooted. She also wields a sword in her hand and wears golden rings on her ankles with a purple jewel on each side.
As an adult, Sothis
Personality
Sothis is best described as a seemingly snarky and lazy person who struggles to recall her past and true identity. However, she is also occasionally shown to be very perceptive and wise, and she frequently helps Byleth a lot. In spite of her youthful appearance, Sothis behaves and speaks like she was a grandmother of sorts and oftentimes shows frustration at being unable to remember anything of her past. She is also shown to be quite sleepy, often dozing off or fading during her conversations with Byleth.
When she's awake, she comments and asks questions about the situation, giving Byleth guidance on what to do. But even though she is a vessel in Byleth, she feels superior to them and chastises them harshly when they reply with remarks she finds stupid. She even goes so far as to demand a certain amount level of respect despite the fact that she is ultimately powerless on her own, relying on Byleth to interact with the outside world, albeit in a limited capacity.
Biography
Long ago. Sothis descended in Fodlan and from her blood, she created the Nabateans who were known as the Children of the Goddess. She shared knowledge to the people of the land and helped builded a prosperous kingdom called Agartha. They co-existed with the Nabateans. Eventually the Agarthans became greedy and arrogant and turned their backs on the Goddess' teachings. They engaged in pointless wars and declared themselves gods. They tried to kill Sothis but she destroyed their kingdom for their hubris. Fodlan was devastated. The goddess expended all of her power to restore the land and fell in a deep sleep in the Holy Tomb. The surviving Agarthans hid underground and became Those Who Slither in the Dark. They manipulated a bandit named Nemesis to breaching the tomb and kill Sothis in her sleep. Those Who Slither in the Dark made the Sword of the Creator from Sothis' bones and gave it to Nemesis. During the War of Heroes, Seiros, Sothis' daughter, killed Nemesis and claims the Sword and its Crest Stone. She founded the Church of Seiros and created vessels to revive her mother but all attempts failed except Sitri. Sitri asked Rhea to place the Crest Stone to her child Byleth. She did and Byleth survives but didn't have a heartbeat. Years later, Sothis visited Byleth in a dream.
After Byleth is sent to Zahras by Solon, Sothis merges with Byleth in order to escape, sacrificing her indivduality. In the beginning of Part II, Sothis tells Byleth to wake up as there is a war going on, and that they are the only one to stop it.
In the ending, it is possible to marry Sothis and gain an S support with her in all routes by completing a certain condition.
