Haohmaru is the main protagonist of the Samurai Shodown series of fighting games.
In the Japanese version, he was voiced by Masaki Usui who was replaced with Hiroyuki Koga and Daiki Nakamura in the video games and Shingo Katori in the movie, and by Edward Bosco in Soulcailbur VI. In the English version of the movie, he was voiced by Milton Lawrence.
Biography
Haohmaru is a lone samurai who travels to perfect his skills. Back when he was much younger, he challenged Jubei and got defeated badly. Since then, he left his village to challenge strong opponents to refine his skills. During his travels, he met Nicotine and became one of his students. When Amakusa appeared back into the world, Haohmaru set out to kill Amakusa as he was a strong opponent. He killed Amakusa with help from Nakoruru, Hanzo, Galford, Charlotte, and Ukyo.
The same year, he ran into Shizumaru who's village was destroyed by the demon Zankuro. He took care of Shizumaru and helped him find Zankuro. A year later, he was attacked by a demon possessed man during his sleep. Haohmaru easily kills the attacker and tells Nicotine about the attack. Nicotine warns Haohmaru that he must not get involved with the demons.
But Haohmaru ignores the warning and sets out to kill the source of the attack. During his travel, he was attacked by Mizuki but was saved by Amakusa. With help from Nakoruru, he was able to defeat Mizuki and seal off Makai.
Abilities
At age 15, Haohmaru was already an invincible swordsman and only one such as Jubei Yagyu was able to defeat him. Haohmaru has then trained for years under the tutelage Nicotine Caffeine and together with Genjuro Kigami, before embarking on his personal journey in his early 20's. Despite the teachings received, his sword style is ultimately his own unique creation. In his quest towards perfection, Haohmaru travels the world, and occasionally the demon realm, in search of mighty and new opponents against whom testing and improving his skill, whether it be a friendly match or a bloody death battle in the name of the true samurai spirit. Likewise, Haohmaru is an excellent teacher, having tutored promising warriors such as Shizumaru, Takechiyo and Mikoto, thus becoming among those Golba considers worthy to be general of his army. His special skill is doing street performances, although he insinsts on them being a serious display of swordsmanship. He is also versed in hand-to-hand combat, can disarm armed opponents with his bare hands and pull of tricks such as tossing his sword into the air and make it land into its sheat without looking.

Haohmaru is a confident, sake-loving wandering ronin who travels the land in search of new opponents and exterminates evil whenever it is found. He embodies the concepts of honor and humility, never drawing back from a duel but also never killing pointlessly. Formed in the art of swordsmanship since a young age, Haohmaru always faced head-first every prospect of a thrilling battle, whether it was to slay a demon or save a dear one. In his life, Haohmaru crossed swords with countless opponents, put an end to great evils and his fame spread to every corner of the globe. His rivalry with Genjuro Kibagami became a matter of legend, as well as his many exploits. To this day, Haohmaru keeps honing his skills despite the advanced age, always following the way of a true samurai.

Soulcalibur VI
Haohmaru is a playable guest DLC character in all versions of Soulcalibur VI. Daiki Nakamura reprises his role as the character in the Japanese version, while Edward Bosco voices him in the English version. Haohmaru retains most of his moves from the Samurai Shodown series. He was released as part of DLC 9 & 10 on March 31, 2020 and is not part of the game's storyline.
Super Smash Bros.
In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Haormaru appears as one of Terry's DLC spirits. He is an ace primary attack spirit that increases the user's sword attacks. His spirit battle is a stamina battle on the the Gerudo Valley stage against Mii Swordfighter with the Takamaru's outfit where he increases his attack power when he is in high damange.
