Xion is a major character in the Kingdom Hearts franchise. She is a number of the Organization XIII and resembles Kairi due to the fact that she is Sora's most precious and powerful memory.

She is voiced by Risa Uchida in the Japanese version and by Alyson Stoner and Hayden Panettiere in the English version.

Personality

First arriving at Organization XIII, Xion is a bashful, secluded individual. When going on a mission with Roxas, Xion begins to open up to him and later Axel. She does seem to express emotions due to her nature of existence, and is always content to be with her friends. However, she is somewhat emotionally fragile, becoming deeply furious with the right provocation. After finding out the origins of her existence, she also becomes deeply perplexed and lost. She is observant and perceptive. She has a strong sense of justice and generosity, seen in the way she willingly gave up herself to join with Sora. She resembles Kairi and Naminé in the way that she fights to protect those she has come to care for.

Appearance

Xion's Organization coat is similar to the one Roxas wears, with slightly pointed shoulders and closer-fitting sleeves. She also wears the more feminine, heeled boots that Larxene wears and the basic black gloves. Physically, Xion strongly resembles Kairi in her appearance from Kingdom Hearts, having her blue eyes and virtually the same haircut, though Xion's hair is black and her bangs part on a different side. She is slightly shorter than Roxas. As a result of her being crafted from Sora's memories, Xion's appearance is somewhat unstable, as she is known to transform into Roxas (in his Black Cloak), and both Riku and Sora in their original appearances from the first game.

Her appearance is also slightly different depending on who is looking at her, and their relation to her. Most of the Organization, such as Saïx and, early on, Axel, view her as a hooded puppet, while to Xigbar, she appears identical to Ventus. Xemnas, on the other hand, sees her true form—a perfect copy of Sora. In one of his secret reports, Axel states that Xion looks like Naminé, although it is not clear if he truly saw her as Naminé at that time, or if he simply was referring to the physical similarities that Xion and Naminé share. An interesting note is that once Axel considers Xion a friend, from that point forward, he only sees her as the girl that she is instead of a hooded puppet.

Tomoco Kanemaki is responsible for Xion having black hair.

When Xion begins to absorb Sora's memories from each of the devices that were placed in Wonderland, Halloween Town, and Agrabah, she gains armor that causes her to resemble a mechanized version of Sora as he appeared in Kingdom Hearts. Her armor changes based on the amount of memories that she has taken in, though some features stay the same. Her initial armor has the form of a pink and white helmet that has spikes on the top, sides, and back. Her body armor is a black, white, and pink jacket with black and pink gloves. The bottom half of the armor consists of mainly black and gold, with golden and white shoes. If one pays attention, her silhouette matches that of Sora.

During her first form in the Bizarre Room in Wonderland, she uses a pair of green, white, and pink wings, and carries a golden and pink blade. In her second form in Halloween Town, she uses a large, long blade inspired by Halloween Town itself, and uses the Ragnarok limit. While in her Agrabah form, she appears to have four arms, as well as having additional golden shoulder pads and purple and white blades, for the Ars Arcanum attack. Finally, her final form in Twilight Town is a large, upscaled version of the original, with two pink lances in the shape of the Nobody symbol. This last form slightly resembles Sora as he looks in Kingdom Hearts II.

History

Xion first came into existence shortly after Sora was placed into his hibernation pod to have his memories broken up by Naminé restored as part of the Replica Program. Dubbed "Xion" as she was No. i ("i" being an imaginary number), she soon became friends with Sora's Nobody, Organization XIII's newest member, Number XIII, Roxas, and veteran member, Number VIII, Axel. However, unknown to anyone but Xemnas himself, Xion was part of a plan to provide a Sora for the Organization to use in their plans should Sora be unable to perform the duties himself when he awoke from his hibernation. As Xion remembered more and more of Sora's memories, she was actually stalling Sora's awakening as she absorbed those memories herself, at one point having a nightmare where she transformed into an exact lookalike of Sora in his Kingdom Hearts I appearance.

After Axel overpowered her at the cost of exhausting himself in the process, Xemnas took Xion and prepared to unleash his endgame to ensure Sora never awoke from his slumber. The next time Roxas met up with Xion at the Twilight Town Central Station clock tower, she soon revealed Xemnas' plan to him, including when she lowered her hood to reveal she now sported Sora's face and hair, showing just how far Xemnas' plan had advanced with making Xion a Sora Replica. Drawing her Keyblade, Xion prepared to face Roxas to apparently absorb him to complete Xemnas' plan and ensure Sora never woke up, but this was a farce. Xion refused to let Xemnas' plan come to fruition and instead was able to let Roxas overpower and defeat her, returning her to her original appearance in his eyes before she faded away and was absorbed by Roxas instead, ensuring Sora's memory restoration continued and Xemnas' plan was halted. Following this, Roxas decided to leave the Organization in disgust, despite pleas by Axel to reconsider as if he leaves, the Organization will destroy him as punishment for his treason.

When Roxas is later attacked by Riku, arming himself with both Xion and his own Keyblades, he then passes one, possibly Xion's, to Riku to duel him. However, as Roxas prepared to finish Riku off, a plea from Xion allows Riku to not only block the strike, but then unleash his inner darkness, causing him to take on the appearance of Ansem, Seeker of Darkness, and overpower and knock Roxas out with Ansem's Guardian, allowing him to capture Roxas and take him to Ansem the Wise to be placed in a virtual copy of Twilight Town until Sora's restoration of his memories was complete and the time came for Roxas to merge with Sora once more to awaken him from his slumber.

By the time of the events in Kingdom Hearts III, Vexen had restarted the Replica Program to ensure that Master Xehanort had thirteen pieces of darkness for his True Organization XIII, including another Riku Replica and one of Xion when she was originally created as part of Xemnas' original plan with his Organization XIII, making the new Xion completely subservient to Master Xehanort. However, during the final clash in the Keyblade Graveyard, as Xion and Saïx faced off with Axel and Kairi, joined by Sora, Xemnas stepped in to punish Axel for his treason, before Xion stepped in to end Axel's life herself, but hesitated. When Sora intervened, Xion attacked him in a blind rage, until Roxas, speaking through Sora, called out to her to stop by name. This caused Axel to remember Xion, and as the Xion Replica is overpowered by Xion's heart and becomes the real Xion, giving her a physical body once more.

Xemnas prepares to kill Xion, Axel, Sora, and Kairi, but is stopped by Roxas as he arrives in a new body thanks to the Replica Program to save his friends. Undaunted, Xemnas kidnaps Kairi for Master Xehanort, leaving the berserker Saïx to face off with Roxas, Xion, and Sora, where he is overpowered and fades away to be reborn as Isa, while Xion and Roxas have a happy and tearful reunion with Axel before joining Sora, King Mickey, Riku, Terra, Aqua, and Ventus to confront Master Xehanort, who slayed Kairi in cold blood to provoke Sora, Riku, and King Mickey into attacking him and thus forge the χ-blade again.

However, working together, Xion and the other Keyblade warriors are able to immobilize Master Xehanort to allow Sora to face him in Scala ad Caelum, Xehanort's former home, in a final confrontation that Master Xehanort loses thanks to Goofy and Donald coming to Sora's aid when Xehanort thought he had won. After Master Eraqus appears and convinces Master Xehanort that it is over, with his wounds and age catching up to him, Master Xehanort accepts defeat, entrusts the χ-blade to Sora for safekeeping, and passes on to the afterlife with Eraqus. Xion aids Sora in using the χ-blade to seal Kingdom Hearts for good before Sora departs to recover Kairi, as Xion had told him earlier that she was still alive as Xion could sense it.

Once things have settled down and Sora completed his mission, Xion joins everyone on the Destiny Islands to celebrate, before watching as Sora spends one last moment with Kairi before he disappears to parts unknown, the punishment for overusing the power of waking and violating the Master of Masters' prophecy of the Keyblade War written in the Book of Prophecies.

To try and help figure out where Sora went after he vanished, Xion and Roxas are placed in the care of Hayner, Pence, and Olette as they use the equipment in the Old Mansion in Twilight Town to try to find any clues that would lead to Sora in Xion and Roxas' memories.

Xion was heavily implied to be the final member of the real Organization XIII based on the Final Battle Trailer for Kingdom Hearts III, as Lea knew no one other than Roxas who could possibly wield the Kingdom Key; this turned out to be true, although she ended up defecting from the real Organization and joining the Guardians of Light instead when she regained her memories of Roxas and Axel.
