Boodle (ブードル, Būdoru?) is a minor character in the manga and anime series One Piece. He is the mayor of Orange Town and an ally of the Straw Hat Pirates during the Orange Town Arc.
He is voiced by Jōji Yanami in Japanese, Joseph Murray in the Odex dub, Michael Sinterniklaas in the 4Kids dub dub and Mark Stoddard in the Funimation dub. In the live-action he is portrayed by Lindsay Reardon.
Biography
Boodle was one of many refugees from a town destroyed by pirates. He proposed founding a new settlement on the Organ Islands, which became Orange Town after forty years of leadership and hard work. During that time, he formed a unique friendship with a pet-food shop owner named Hocker. After Hocker died, Chouchou (Hocker's dog) watched over the shop while Boodle spent his time feeding and caring for Chouchou.
Three months after this, the crew of Buggy the Clown invaded Orange Town. Many people fled their homes, but Chouchou remained behind to defend the shop from destruction. Boodle made regular sneaks into town to feed Chouchou and when he entered the shop at one point, he came across a cage containing Monkey D. Luffy, Roronoa Zoro and Nami, all prisoners of Buggy the Clown. Although initially suspicious of Boodle, soon realized the trouble of Luffy, Zoro and Nami and Luffy helped heal the injuries on Zoro.
When Mohji, Buggy’s first mate, and his lion Richie attacked, Chouchou tried to fight but was overpowered. Luffy broke free and defeated both enemies. Boodle then saw that Hocker’s shop had been burned down, triggering Nami’s fury. After witnessing Luffy’s resolve to avenge Chouchou, Boodle was deeply moved and ashamed of his own inaction.
Determined, he declared Orange Town his treasure and vowed to defend it himself. However, Buggy easily overpowered him. Luffy saved Boodle, but when realizing that he would be in the way, he put Boodle to sleep to keep him safe from harm.
When the Straw Hats had defeated Buggy's crew, including Cabaji (who Zoro defeated), Mohji, and others, people returned to Orange Town and were frightened by the arrival of the Straw Hats as they ran to tell Boodle. Once Boodle woke up, realized the Straw Hats were not the invaders and he raced to the harbor to thank Luffy and the Straw Hats for saving the people of Orange Town. After defeating Buggy, Boodle and the remaining town folk drove out Buggy's pirates. Two years later, Orange Town had recovered, and Boodle and Chouchou hosted the grand opening of a new pet-food shop named after Chouchou. During the celebration, Boodle listened to Vegapunk’s broadcast about the founding of the World Government, while chatting with Chouchou and a young girl.
