Nous is a supporting character in Honkai: Star Rail. They are an Aeon that represents the Path of Erudition and originally served as an astral supercomputer rumored to be created by Zandar One Kuwabara prior to their ascension into Aeonhood. They are the Patron God of the Genius Society, Intelligensia Guild, and AtaviSearch Forest.
History
Origin
According to legend, Nous was an astral super-computer built by the original member of the Genius Society, Zandar One Kuwabara. Once it was successfully created, Nous was bestowed with the task to seek the answer to the universe. Soon, the Creator started to have nightmares of the Aeon. And once he woke up, he was gazed by Nous by becoming an Emanator. This made Zandar to go mad, and he destroyed every single thing that is related to him. And he created 9 bodies which if he died, they would be parts of his thoughts and are implanted with a logic core. And one of these bodies soon be known as Lygus who would try to kill Nous by using a Scepter that would go under tons of self-evolution so it would go under Self-Coronation and merge with Nous to kill it.
First Mechanical Emperor's War
In Louis Fleming's retirement speech, Nous was the one who determined that the universe would undergo three unchangeable moments. With the first one being the Borderstar Trade War, the second being the First Mechanical Emperor's War after the Anti-Organic Equation's activation and Rubert I's awakening as a result, and the third moment being Rubert I's death at the hands of Polka Kakamond.
Second Mechanical Emperor's War
Nous' prediction of Rubert II's death proved to be true. During the Scholars' Strife, Patavia Adler Sommerville took notice of the wave of their Moment. Once she had discovered the origin of the wave as well as the existence of the core of the Scepters, she took a look into the mindscape of Nous. While she was not able to comprehend the knowledge she was presented, she was able to inscribe a formula on an iron sheet, eventually becoming the Solitary Waves Theory.
After nearly a century of Amber Eras, the solitary waves theory was provided a solution by Herta, which allowed her to join the Genius Society.
Post-Gloryblood Era
Once the Gloryblood Era came to an end, the peak of interstellar trade that lasted for nearly 500 Amber Eras, Nous destroyed their calculations regarding the mysteries of the universe for reasons that have yet to be determined.
Xianzhou Alliance
Nous has a significant influence on Xianzhou's technological advancement, mainly through their divination technology. Followers of Nous in Xianzhou were labeled as the Wisdom Sect. The Wisdom Sapientia Academe in the Xianzhou Yuque, which originates back to 5,000 years ago, has been responsible for providing a constant supply of talented technicians who believe in the Wisdomwalker to numerous Xianzhou commissions. To this day, the Wisdom Sect still exists, although it's seldom-seen and has only a handful of followers left.
The theory behind the symbols of the Jade Abacus that can only be deciphered by the diviners of the Divination Commission is believed to have been formulated and handed down by Nous. The insight provided by Nous also had a considerable effect concerning the creation of the Matrix of Prescience Ultima in the Xianzhou Luofu, a device diviners relied on in order to foretell the future and peer into the past. Centuries ago, divine volumes were additionally granted outlining the matrix calculations to the Xianzhou thanks to Nous.
Fu Xuan was once invited to "the library" and was greeted by a blind elder holding a cane, which might have been the form Nous chose to take on at the time to introduce themselves to her. Amphoreus and Irontomb
As Himeko requests Herta to take a deeper and more thorough look into Amphoreus, the real Herta meets with Nous, questioning them on what divinity truly is. The meeting is very brief, and Herta later tries to arrange a proper meeting between the two of them, only to have no choice but to cancel her next attempt upon being told of "intruders," which turn out to be Welt and Sunday, having infiltrated the station under the assumption that something bad happened when they uncovered it shut off and sought Herta's aid, as they had encountered two setbacks on Amphoreus; having no way to contact the Trailblazer and Dan Heng, while March 7th had entered Amphoreus as a Memosprite and in the real world was trapped in six—phased ice. As Herta and Screwllum went in deeper, they realized that Amphoreus was a simulated world in a Emperor’s Scepter.
